I don’t know the backstory, only that the first part of Alyia’s quote frames it the other way “I know (the) council put forth a proposal to not be at the table or making those decisions…”

Not saying press release comm. was appropriate, but both bodies need to make intentional efforts to improve.

I like the way Alyia framed it here: “how could we be sharing information as we build our contracts? Make sure that we are in alignment about the fiscal pressures we're facing . . . Partners have to be direct or else you're not building a good partnership."

I hear you. Delivery is important. But again, council knows it’s locked itself into CBAs that are now obligatory spending and so how else does one communicate that given they acted pursuant to a 2021 council ordinance to reach the CBA and the majority of the budget is personnel.

And council is certainly getting constituent pressure on this. Can attest, as it came up in the campaign many times (more oversight w/r/t schools). I see it as a proposal to go down that route, but I also think there are clear, documented, opportunities for increased comms outside a rigid structure.

And I think council knows CBAs are expensive. To me, anyone paying attention would have seen the CBA coming. And known how expensive they are. So to suggest only a 1.5% increase, given public calls for step increases etc., just shows how disengaged the two bodies are with each other.

I’m not here to argue this, as clearly there are seemingly universal strong feelings about SB. But to me, council can’t claim to be surprised. They passed the ordinance to allow CB, have done so with multiple unions, and SB said in ‘24 they would do this and all put it in their budget priorities.

I have some City things, but then commission, DRCA, Navy, and firm events. That’s before Elissa’s items. Not a contest. But Elissa keeps reminding me this is supposed to be my year of reducing complexity but I keep finding ways to do the opposite

I have no excuses for not attending the two things on my agenda this evening. But I’m taking Joe’s cue and trying to practice this giving-myself-grace thing people keep trying to tell me about.
