I could go on, but the point is this: if an industry tells you up front that its core aim is to exploit human intelligence for profit without reference to human rights, then the moral thing to do is burn it down and salt the fucking earth.
I don’t think we talk enough about how the foundational, most aspirational premise of the AI industry is “what if there was a human-level intelligence that didn’t have human rights.” Like. Apart from the moral repugnance, this is so revealing of how ignorant conservatives are about poverty. Poor people have to think about money ALL THE TIME. They worry constantly about what everything costs, how to substitute one purchase for another, what bill can be put off until payday, etc.

The US's higher ed system is far from perfect, but if you care about living in a halfway decent and just society, you're sure gonna miss it when it's gone. And if the GOP has its way, it could be largely decimated within a decade or so.
the discourses on here about what public health workers should or should not do is pretty disconnected from the evidence base, expert consensus, and broader reality of that work. and most current PH workers have been driven off social media due to harassment, censorship, or just being way too busy
