Also: the text extruding machines are using text written by humans. Have them write it from nada and if they manage to pull out a Cortazar-like, I'll get you a cup of premium fermented cocoa from Oaxaca (with chilli).

Is that not how tobacco companies work?

Beginning to see a pattern here.

I've asked this fish to jump, and he is not doing it. It must be deaf.

me and other mid-career women keep being cast as early-career — in b & w as well — and it's kinda cringe (basic loser sexism etc) but lemme tell you it's also REALLY harmful to juniors who think they are supposed to operate during their PhD, postdocs at the level of PIs & other mid-career people

Everyone and their dog seems to release a statement every other day about how important education is but for those being educated, it just feels wrong and they aren't asked anyway.
Sorry. I got off topic but this and it's implications way heavy on my mind. Nothing has changed since I was in there.

You know, our education system is so backwards we were told that "computers will take jobs away" but at the same time "you need to learn to write "10 rem, 20, rem, 30 goto 10" or something to get a grade.
And yeah, the combination puts a dent in any enthusiasm left. School and educ is crazy here.

The ridiculous thing about this is that the UX improvements are relatively small and could've been done many times over if the federales would just accept that having to choose an instance and worrying about not being able to see some communities are actually really big fucking deals to most people.

That's part of it, but another part is that there is a genuine and massive disparity in the sheer amount of human and monetary resources spent on onboarding. Microsoft has gone extremely out of its way for many decades to embed itself and provide teaching materials to schools and universities.

I think what's hard is for people in a minority situation Linux, mastodon, whatever, to understand how to be empathic to learners and newcomers. One aspect of this also is at play in teaching programming. My ideas are here on that if useful:

Our publisher outright refuses to tell us how much money they make from our journal, which gives us no reference for how "fair" the small payment they give us for expenses is. But they own the title so...

I have been using Linux since 2006 and it's not easy as many things in life that are good or whatever aren't easy, they are fuckos

I'm not on Mastodon and I know this triggers some people no end, likewise when they hear I don't use Linux despite it being "so easy". Maybe true or not, I just don't have mental capacity for that.

Happy International Women’s Day!

Let's create a thread of women from history we think more people should know about.

We will start:

Una Marson (1905 – 1965) was a Jamaican feminist, activist and writer.
