Turing machine game set up on a table
Turing machine is a really interesting solo puzzle. But playing with other people is as interesting as two people solving separate Sudokus

Kickstarter can be tricky that way. I know some people get a sunk cost fallacy and treat every one of their crowdfunded games as a 10/10. I usually swing the other way and no game can live up to the hype in my head.
Player sheet of Draft and Write Records
Playing Draft & Write Records from Inside Up Games!
Probably one of my favourite "X and Write" games, because there's a few times throughout the game where you can hit the cascading bonuses, and that's the moment I love most about X and write games.

Screenshot of the STS2 victory...? screen
It is perhaps fitting that the character I was the worst with in STS 1 is the first character I beat STS 2 with.
"We use a problematic plagiarism machine in every aspect of our creative work, but you can totally trust that we write the words. Definitely wouldn't use AI for that one aspect. We've already shown our integrity doesn't exist, but pinkie swear that the words we feed into the AI voiceover are real."
I literally went to Costco yesterday thinking of buying a switch 2, and when I saw the price tag was reminded why I hadn't already bought one.

Good bye, everyone. It's been nice knowing you.
In March I MUST play Board Games, as proclaimed by the King!
I, Ming, AKA Brother Ming, and everyone associated with Brother Ming Games, unequivocally denounce the use of Al Art. There is no ethical use of Generative Al to create art. We strongly disapprove of any board game publisher who use Image Generation tools in their process. Board games only have 2 components: written rules and printed physical components. The visuals in board games carry much more weight than in video games. To use Al art in board games is to treat them as nothing more than a product to be shoveled out for the sake of profit. SAY NO TO AI ART IN GAMES
What a statement! This is what we like to see on a crowdfunding page @brotherminggames.bsky.social !! πͺ
Fuck AI in boardgames and fuck those that use it!

I also go through long stretches of not reading Pratchett, and then when I do get back into the discwod, I think "WHY AM I NOT READING THIS ALL THE TIME!?"
The only strategy advice I give or receive before the first play is to tell what the average winning score of a game is. It's important to know the relative value of a point, like in Castles of Burgundy, 4 points is 2% of your score, while in Agricola, it's closer to 10% - 15% of your final score!

As much as I like the perks of emulation and playing with all kinds of different handhelds, nothing feels quite the same as playing a game in the hardware it was intended to be on.
Today's review is of Perch! The mean bird game!
It's an area control game about total majorities and no mercy for ties, which created a fair amount of tension. I enjoyed it more than I thought I would.

See, that sounds like a kind choice to make, but then you'll just pick the type that's strong against me.
*Gasp!* You're my rival!!
Pokemon Winds and Waves aren't coming until 2027, which is disappointing to me. But you know what's never disappointing? @boardgamefeast.bsky.social's birthday!
Happy birthday Daniel, hope you have a good one!
When you played it, what was your player count? We're playing 3 players and I'm sure this is meant to be a solo two handed experience
I just found all the 2.0 stuff on the Awakened Realms website. Time to comb through it and see what really changes!
No, I didn't know there was a 2.0 update. We've just been playing the game as it came in the box.
Train Valley 2 screenshot of train tracks snaking across the map connecting cities to resource production locations
I have an hour to kill, and I know I should be writing a board game review, or finishing up my FF9 playthrough. But all I want to do is play with trains!
I have 350+ hours in Train Valley 2, and I still love the little puzzles to bits.
Tainted Grail Gameplay
I want to enjoy Tainted Grail. I want to explore and adventure through The wyrdness of Kamelot. Instead we spent 3 hours grinding encounters to amass enough resources so we don't just die after lighting the next menhir.

I quite enjoyed @brotherminggames.bsky.social's Re;Act. It had tight decision spaces and wild asymmetry, both great aspects for a 1v1 duelling game. Not to mention the production was slick as hell.
I'm really looking forward to seeing what Re;Match does with the marble tower!

Hey! I'm #3,000!
I just realized that I replied to this post earlier instead of reposting it.
I prefer most written reviews because they tend to provide more color and depth.
Alex does such a great job here summarizing the rules and vibrantly conveying the experience of playing the game.
Very much appreciated!
I've tried to record video reviews off the cuff, but I turn into a blithering idiot the moment there's a camera on me.
"The game was....good. I had...fun?"
It was not a pretty sight. I'll stick to my blog π
Thanks for the kind words, Corey!
i think we all need to normalize just being comfortable with giving earnest compliments without weird caveats. if your friend does something cool, tell them itβs cool. i donβt necessarily thrive on compliments, but it does means a lot if a friend goes out of their way to say something kind to me.
Bulletβ€οΈ is such a gem. I'm eager to get the next couple expansions soon, hopefully!
Take Time cards which are white and black
Take Time gameplay with black and white cards on the table around a circular dial
Take Time has replaced The Crew as our end of game night play. We're silently sorting cards, but when the reveal happens and we've succeeded in making ascending piles of cards, it's euphoric.
