A bunch of people got angry and/or confused as to why I would complain about #cycling infrastructure not being cleared of #snow a week after a snow storm in #toronto
This short is my response. #biketo

After over a week, the city of #toronto has yet to make most of the #bikelanes in the city safe for use. Most of them are completely impossible. Some have been cleared, but there is still a layer of hard packed snow and ice on them.

Agreed, but imagine how much more impressive it will be when we win?
OK. Which one of us will be the first to race it on our bikes?
University avenue bike lane full of snow.
The bike lanes are clearly not being cleared first, no matter what some people say. #biketo
I'm sure Doug Ford will try his hardest to reverse this trend.
Ontario's premier is so determined to bring civil servants back to the office full time he's willing to have the taxpayer foot the cost for more office space?

To explain zoning to my family, I'll say: "For Thanksgiving, the salad is on one table, drinks upstairs, sides in the living room, and the turkey is in the bathroom."
Then we'll watch the traffic chaos as everyone tries to eat.
That's how bad zoning creates traffic out of thin air. 🦃
“We were told it wouldn’t do anything & nobody would take these cycle paths. But in 6 years, we transformed Paris to improve your commute and your life, and records are breaking. And this is only the beginning!”
On an average day, roughly 13,000 to 14,000 cycling trips now pass along the boulevard.
Meanwhile in Ontario, our car-brained Premier Doug Ford continues to prevent Toronto from pursuing congestion pricing despite the overwhelming evidence it works in NYC, London, and other cities around the world. #BikeTO #WalkTO #TTC #TOpoli #ONpoli

When mad drivers tell you that you, a cyclist, don't belong on roads because you don't pay registration and the gas tax, show them the Road Damage Calculator. Compare, for example, the damage made by a small SUV and a longtail cargo e-bike. Very different orders of magnitude roaddamagecalculator.com
As the #Ontario #conservative government makes it near impossible to put in bike lanes in cities, they have no problem spending $3.9 million on snow mobile tracks. Note, I have no issue with this in and of itself. My point is the hypocrisy that it just so happens #DougFord is a snowmobiler. #biketo

“Bike lanes hurt small businesses by removing parking!”
I love this one. The Annex BIA which was initially against the installation of the bloor bike lanes was recently up in arms over the Ontario Government's attempt at removing them. 😮bikes lanes increase foot traffic. #biketo
Well, Doug Ford is planning to build a subway under the other two under ground layers of car traffic on his longest car tunnel in the world project. So we have that.
100% this! I'm going to start calling those two-wheeled electric vehicles with throttles that don't require pedalling "e-motos" too. Hopefully we can shift the narrative => e-bikes are NOT a problem in Toronto's bike lanes, e-motos are the problem. #BikeTO #bikesky
really though, we're getting way off topic. Your overall thesis is right, the future of EVs is micro mobility. But if you're going to sell it, back it up with easily provable data and factor in how it improves your life not just the planet.
So? Weight is just one of many factors in the carbon footprint of any vehicle. There are so many more. A lot of the carbon footprint of any cars manufacturing is the supply chain, from where and how far do parts and materials have to ship. How the batteries are made and what tech they use.
Whoops. I meant using that as a benchmark for other vehicles. You chose the worst example and extrapolated it to every other large EV. Not factoring in all the things that make EV carbon footprints like where or how the batterys are made.
I'm a daily cycle commuter & do most of my shopping by bike + cargo trailer. but taking one of the biggest SUVs on the market from a small manf. & claiming that it pollutes as much as a gas SUV (of unspecified size) is a bit disingenuous.
> this also has a carbon footprint as large as an internal combustion engine SUV.
Do you have a source for this? Everything I've read says that's not even close to being true.

My comment RE Ontario Bill 60 -- As a long-time road safety advocate, I am strongly opposed to the Ford government's proposal to ban the removal of motor vehicle lanes for bike lanes or any other prescribed purpose! This - along with Bill 56 which bans speed cameras - effectively kills any possibility for the City of Toronto to redesign Parkside Drive despite repeated calls from local residents to make that street safer for all road users. I used to live near this street and can personally attest to the need for safety improvements on that street, while there are others across the city that also need to be made safer for all road users. The idea of prioritizing motor vehicles over all other modes of transportation is UNACCEPTABLE in the 21st century and goes against what other cities across Canada and around the world are doing. The only way Ontario can fight gridlock and climate change is with FEWER CARS and that can only be accomplished by reallocating road space away from cars for walking, cycling, and transit. It is essential that Queen's Park withdraw Bill 60 in full (and repeal Bill 212) IMMEDIATELY! Not just for the bike lane provision, but also for the housing items which are hostile to tenants.
Speaking of Bill 60, please submit your comments via the Ontario Regulatory Registry no later than Saturday, November 22. My comments are in the image below with alt text provided. #BikeTO #TOpoli #ONpoli #VisionZero www.regulatoryregistry.gov.on.ca/proposal/52295
Was biking on a road with NO bike lane. A man pulled out from a parking spot and almost hit me. Opened his window and yelled at me to stay in the bike lane. 🤨#biketo
