Brown Long Eared bat often found in relatively exposed places during the winter period. This guy was in a crack of this old stone quarry face. You can see the bat’s face and thumbs and tragus, the ears are folded back close to the body out of sight

Natterers bat (Myotis nattereri) in torpor-a state of decreased physiological activity, usually marked by:reduced body temperature & metabolic rate. Torpor enables animals to survive periods of reduced food availability. Insect availability in winter is low so bats have evolved to hibernate.
