and the real answer seems to be "date one of the existing staff members" but ugh i don't want to. so chat, how do i break through the volunteer ceiling and get paid for my organising and support work without having to sleep with the current staff at an org?

i've been doing volunteer work pretty consistently for the last decade in various scenes, i should be able to get paid for it, but the only advice i get to do so is usually "just keep reliably showing up" which seems like it's advice designed to extract the maximum amount of free labor from me.
