I think viewers are more angry with the last 5 seasons because they've lost their sense of event and failed to delivered both quality and quantity than they are with the casting, it's just easier to blame it on the casting.

I also think RTD got lazy and the second time around his trips down memory lane felt like insultingly low effort stunts.
