Work to rid this country of its gun culture, of its sicknesses and ills, and decry every act of incitement, violence, oppression, fascism and indecency, no matter who commits it. Be good, be decent, be honest. Try, please. I promise, if we do, we will all get along better and happier, together.
I suppose that's not likely to happen. But I wish it would.
And if you want to DO something about this? Work and fight and campaign and organize so that nothing like this can happen to ANYONE, ever again.
If any of us, Left or Right, want this moment—this death—to serve ANY lasting good, it will be in coming to the collective sense that guns, gun violence, the rhetoric of oppression, death, and prejudice... they all need to stop. Because they come for us all in the end, not just the "other team".

If you are someone who, before now, has considered the notion that school shootings sometimes "just happen", that sometimes innocent lives taken by guns are "tragic, but necessary", I implore you to consider exactly what you're letting slide. It's this.
They all looked a lot like that.
It sucks, right? It's really hard to see, it makes you uncomfortable and upset. That's because IT'S FUCKING AWFUL. It's unnatural, disgusting, abhorrent, perverse, and so beneath us as a species.
Here's all I want to impress: what you saw today (and I insist that if you have not, DO NOT WATCH THE VIDEO), is the exact thing that happened to every child in every school shooting that has ever happened in this country, to every victim of gun violence, every person of color gunned down by police.
People got to see what it looks like, close enough to reach out and touch, when a bullet carves someone's flesh and lets out everything that was supposed to stay inside. It's no longer a concept when you see it like that. It's very, very real, and it doesn't feel good to realize that.
