CRA Explained: The 30-Year-Old Law Being Used to Gut Public Lands Forever
A law designed to help small businesses is being used to permanently strip protections from hundreds of millions of acres of public land. Here's how to stop it.
Please read. The places you love, that are on your bucket list, that belong to all of us are in grave danger. This is not a drill and this is not hyperbole. Our #PublicLands are facing a dire threat. #ParkChat #NationalParks #Conservation #Outdoors #Camping

A 2006 crystal grey metallic WRX 3/4 view from the drivers rear. The car is in front of a pine tree, with mountains in the background at sunset.
Your photo reminds me of this one I took of my old WRX. I was on my way home from the Packwood ProSolo in 2013. I stopped at "Deadman Pass" off I-84... Like yours, it looks like a car ad. #ParkChat

This site needs a break. Post 3 good things, none of which are the cessation of the negative.
1. My little mini daffodils are in bloom and they are so cute!
2. 30MPG on a tank of 93 octane in my WRX is amazing.
3. Nature journaling w/ students who want to do it & then share their poetry w/ you.

That poster was tough for me to get. It wasn't out at the Ash River VC, and Breanna Trygg (Voyageurs Conservancy) found one for me, not sure where, and I paid her for it, since she bought it. I really wanted one though! #ParkChat

The "front" of my room with posters from Voyageurs NP, "Crane Country", Smith Falls SP (Nebraska) and Fishes of Minnesota (from Itasca SP (Minnesota)). Also, I think there's a Fossil Day poster from Badlands NP.
The "Maws" poster in action
Fossils of the Green River Formation poster from Fossil Butte
Here are some photos showing posters in my classroom! #ParkChat

All of them were amazing; quiet and "in the moment." It was just a really great experience. #ParkChat

Today was a "non-instructional day" for juniors to take the SAT. I volunteered to do a "natural journaling" activity in the afternoon. 8 students signed up to do it; 3 of them current students. Two students shared the poems they were inspired to write. #ParkChat

A12 #ParkChat Next we are going to chat about an article we saw that delineated a significant list of negatives about the Parks. Iβll past it again as homework by Sunday. Weβd like some volunteers to help us with some of the Qs-five or six of you perhaps. At the least I expect this to be interesting

A11 #ParkChat I don't have kids, but with my students, just having materials on hand is important. I would think maybe something like a set of watercolor pencils and a sketch book would be a start.

A10 #ParkChat I'm not sure if just one could really encompass everything.
Maybe Wind Cave or Great Basin because they both have amazing above AND below ground experiences?

A8 #ParkChat That's a tough one. I'm torn between my "local" C&O Canal, the Badlands and Voyageurs.
I'll go with the C&O Canal, and photography, only because that's the visual art I'm most comfortable with.

A7 #ParkChat I haven't done an art workshop in a park, unless you count the artistic sessions at a #STEAMinthePark. My best artistic creation is apparently something I don't have a photo of. I was going to post it, but can't find it.

A5 #ParkChat I bring so many park related things into my classroom, it's a bit of a blur. I have a gorgeous piece of Native American art of a turtle that reminds me of the midwest whenever I look at it. (I'll get a photo tomorrow). I also have a bunch of photos I printed out and posted...

An epic poster from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources that plays on Jaws, except it shows the invasive blue catfish as "Jaws" and a little Maryland blue crab as the hapless swimmer.
A4 #ParkChat I have. Some I've bought. Some I've pleaded for (as a teacher, wanting things for my classroom).
I have posters galore. I want things to inspire and interest my students. I know that even subconsciously, the things in my classroom will reach them.

Honestly, I don't know. I think it was a PBS documentary I saw at my parents' house, talking about "badlands". When I drove across the country in 2011, I felt I missed out not stopping by, so I maybe sure I did so in 2012. I fell in love with the place. #ParkChat

The bison are just one part of the Badlands experience
Badlands formations with Bison antiquus bones imbedded
A3 #ParkChat Is it in bad form to use the same park multiple times? Because it's definitely Badlands NP again, because of the colors, the clay, the constantly shifting experience, like the whole park is a creative experiment.

Sunset at Norbeck Pass.
A2 #ParkChat I'm not sure there an image as much as there was an idea. Probably the one NPS site that I felt I *had* to visit was Badlands NP. I first visited in 2012. I've been back soooo many times. I definitely needed to visit it. I'm still not sure why.

At last year's EV Grand Prix for the high school team I support, all of the support vehicles provided by the District of Columbia were F-150 Lightnings -- not the supercharged ones, but the electric ones. We could replenish our race cars' batteries, and run power tools off them!
