you're absolutely right
@lostdomain.org
I share learnings, tips and tricks, and achievements around running and building products solo. π·ββοΈ Building productivity tools like whatpulse.org [Professional], MuteDeck.com, TypeTest.io, and more. Stroopwafels. π§
you're absolutely right
new type of outrage farming:
purple gradients and using em-dashes correctly on your website
I used to treat CI failures as pure friction
now I treat them as product feedback for the codebase itself
if the pipeline is flaky, the system is telling me the architecture is brittle in places that are ignored
I really hope it isn't, but it seems pretty telling that #F1 qualifying times iin 2025 were ~3,5 seconds faster than today's qualifying π¬
I used to think user feedback was mostly feature requests.
It's usually unclear language, missing defaults, or one confusing button.
Small UX fixes ship faster and can move metrics more than big roadmap items.
more people seem to be talking about reviews
which just tell me they don't care about quality code, only care about shipping bad code fast
quality will win on the long term
A lot of "productivity" tips are just better procrastination.
The real boost came from reducing decision points in my day.
Fewer tools, fewer dashboards, fewer places where work can hide.
this is a monster π€―
@elgato finally went too far, but somehow I need it
seeing more and more of these kinds of reactions on support chats
people are starting to expect a bot, and I'm not sure if that's a good thing
the longer I build software, the more I realize most bugs are just assumptions we forgot we made
where is ffmpeg holding up the tower?
solid recommendation
Everyone has a keyboard archetype.
Mine is apparently βtab juggler with Ctrl+Z insurance.β
WhatPulse has receipts.
comforting they don't know everything about me, I guess
no; if you give a screaming toggler what it wants, it'll never stop screaming and grow up to be orange
someone really wants that peace price
TIL: Euclidean distance
Euclidean distance is the straight-line distance between two points in Euclidean space, calculated as the square root of the sum of squared differences between their corresponding coordinates
hot tip: next time you're in a meeting that could've been an email, start this timer and share your screen π
that let's the saas get away with being evil to their users tho
I'm thinking about having claude replicate a SaaS I happily pay for, just because they're still using email OTP for logins
I hate email OTP so much
terminal dings used to mean "hey, you fucked up"
but now, they mean "come look at this awesome thing I built"
these terminal user interfaces keep getting better, I love it π
I can't overstate how satisfying it is to be able to contribute to an app that I use daily π
if you've not used Gitbutler yet, definitely check it out - it's changed the way I use git and github

I'm trying something new: posting youtube videos about small tools that I've built that help me during the day. I've got tons of these, and never take the time to properly talk about them - so this is the first of many:
Jetty - Stop Memorizing Docker Ports (I built a tool for that) (π below)
so nothing to do with json, but the content π
fine-tuning prompts to get what you need is still a skill, although using LLMs to fine-tune them has come a long way
are you saying the json returned by the AI isn't right?
if yes, and if you're not using it, use the response format that you can set to a specific json spec - to always get the right response back
