Yeah these are great

Yeah these are great
Happy Mario Day, everyone. #Mar10
I switched to Godot and haven't looked back (aside from considering ports of games I made in Unity).

Bingo.
Doing some UI soul-searching for Dawn of Days. It's surprising how hard it is for me to find the screenshots and videos I'm looking for. Much easier to "do some research" by revisiting the likes of Triangle Strategy, Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, etc. #SRPG #UIUX #gamedev #indiedev
That AI consumes so much electricity and water makes me think of the magic system in Dark Sun, where the cost of magic is to consume life. Athas ended up a godless desert. Hmmm...
Just learning about prototaxites, an extinct tree-like life form that it neither flora, fauna, or fungus, but a separate category altogether! Despite the dystopia, this is still an exciting time to be alive!

Historically speaking, Nintendo doesn't do fat and happy very well.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Nintendo fan, but I am baffled by how soft of a first party lineup the Switch 2 has had for it's first year. I'm assuming we'll get some big announcements later this year (new 3d Mario next year, is my prediction/hope), and the third party support has been great, but..
Aside from white noise, one of the best ways to get my newborn to sleep is to play the #MarioGalaxy soundtrack. Loud. This, and the fact that I'm playing through Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 for the first time, ahead of the new movie coming out soon, marks a very distinct vibe to this time in my life.
So with tech giants pouring trillions of $$ into AI and driving the cost of memory sky high, is it safe to say that the era of the "personal" computer is coming to an end? I sure hope prices come down, but now that we live in a literal dystopia, I'm not confident that will happen.
For being such a beloved game (and I really do love #MarioGalaxy), Mario Galaxy has the worst swimming controls in the entire franchise.
Just watched the new tailer for the #MarioGalaxyMovie and couldn't be more pleased. My little three and a half year old got so excited. We're planning on making it the first movie we take her to the theater for. She's pumped!

Beautiful pixels.
If I knew how much #Andor had in common with #THX1138 I would have started watching it sooner.
I scored the new #DnD book Forgotten Realms Heroes of Faerun for Christmas. In the absence of a comprehensive Forgotten Realms campaign setting book, this is some great source material. The Sword Coast Adventurer's Guide is great, but a little light on crunch.

Yeah indie development can be a depressing racket if you're hoping anyone will ever play your games.
Ball x Pit = Vampire Survivors x Pinball x ActRaiser
I decided to take some time and refactor some of the core architecture in Dawn of Days Tactics. Better to build it right, now, than to get bogged down by bugs later.
Sometimes you need to slow down in order to speed up. #godot #gamedev #indiedev
Sadly...
Yeah 100%. It's like the term Indy simply means not AAA anymore. Solo dev, that still means something I think.
Do it (if you're into fun, repetitive, stressful hobbies that no one other than you cares about unless you get really really lucky)!
Plus, singletons just seem so much cleaner. I can keep all of the associated variables and methods in one place.
What's the preferred pattern for managing core functionality? Service scripts that field signals, or singletons? Is one noticeably more performant? I was mostly using signals but I worry that all those async calls could lead to timing issues. #godot #gamedev #indiedev
Any new 2d or 3d Mario platformer.
So #BallXPit came out of nowhere and rocked my world. youtu.be/J-hw3aMMLiY?...
I think I'm going to just go with using a giant Dictionary to keep it straight. Thanks for the feedback @yarncatgames.com.
My toddler can't say "gloves" yet, so she calls them "guvvos". I hope she never grows up.
It would be easier if it were procedurally generated, but that's not what I want - it needs to be manually tailored per instance. These are instances of a scene that are pre-generated in the node tree before run time. They're the maps for my game. They each need their own "startingZoneData".
