This has been rattling around my head since 2007. Still seeing it happen all the time.

Convincing them to pay is like convincing a cat to fill in its own tax return.
Discovery that doesnβt lead to action isnβt discovery. Itβs kabuki with post-it notes.
Why the NASA Graphics Standards Manual of 1976 is still relevant today.
The identity manuals and style guides of the late 20th century were a big influence on modern design systems.
NASAβs 1976 Graphics Standards Manual is a great exmple β covering everything from letterheads to spacecraft insignia.
Just for fun, we looked back to see what still holds up todayβ¦

This was an excellent talk at the end of a day of excellent talks.
Me standing in front of the White House in April 2025. In the background also are various bystanders, including a man in suit and red tie, half-wearing a latex Donald Trump mask.
I went to the US and all I got was this stupid photo and some seriously weird vibes.

Still buzzing from State of the Browser yesterday. So many good talks and friendly humans! Well done and thanks, @letorey.co.uk and @londonwebstandards.org crew #SotB2025
Been really fun watching this come together over the past few months.
A square blue sticker with rounded corners featuring the Measured logo. The logo consists of three white corner shapes resembling the letter 'M' and the word 'Measured.' written in white below them. The sticker is placed on a wooden surface.
A space grey Macbook Air with a blue Measured logo sticker centered on its lid. The sticker features three white corner shapes resembling the letter 'M' and the word 'Measured.' written in white below them. The laptop is placed on a wooden surface. In the top-left corner of the image, part of a black music production device with multiple buttons visible. In the top-right corner, there is a potted plant with green leaves in a terracotta pot filled with rocks.

A woman with brown hair (me) in a red and white striped top, looking directly into the camera and pointing.
Iβve worked in intranets, digital workplaces, and comms long enough to see the same cycles repeat, the same mistakes made, and the same bright ideas crash and burn.
So here are the hard truths. Are you ready? Letβs go. π§΅
This was a super fun visit My new favourite bit of swag is my @figma.com "Detach Instance" pin badge, narrowly beating out my @zeroheight.com Chippy socks from Converge. I am a total sucker for quality swag.
A bunch of spatulas shaped like hands.
You total hand spatula.
A letter to The Economist: Selected ambient works Legion of followers of braindance may have spat out their cornflakes when they saw their strange but nonetheless very real music genre declared all but non-existent in the august pages of The Economist (β(Donβt) name that tuneβ, January 25th). Braindance does exist, sold perhaps millions of records, and was the odd brainchild of Aphex Twinβs Rephlex label, which even some of the once hip but now slightly less fleet-of-foot CEOs and business leaders who read your newspaper will surely remember. Robert Rowlands Nottingham
I spat out my cornflakes when I saw the original "braindance" diss, then again when I saw this letter.

An "in event of fire do not use lift" sign, but the fire image on the sign looks more like red hot alien attack slugs.
In the event of hot slug attack do not use this lift.
Publishing an article about Tailwind after I insisted that we stick my email address at the bottom of every page was maybe not my best plan ever. Let's see what happens.
