Left: Minimal line art drawing of a cat that is enclosed in a pink rectangle. Label: Kitten is completely full of crimes

Right: the same cat art but twice the size. The same size rectangle covers only the bottom of the cat. Label: Adult cat contains the same amount of crimes but it does not dominate all of their behaviors

Formerly Dangerous The all-purpose home of critic and screenwriter Drew McWeeny

You can subscribe to one or the other or get The Bundle, which covers both. I need to rebuild, and that means I need you. You'll get so much stuff to read, and you'll help keep this indie publisher afloat. It's a pivotal moment for the newsletters. Whattaya say?

THE LAST '80s NEWSLETTER (YOU'LL EVER NEED) is me reviewing every single film released in the US in theaters in the 1980s. It is a psychotic project, and a great read. I guarantee you'll find stuff in there you've never heard of, and you'll be reminded of great things you've forgotten you ever saw.

An illustration of two snails balancing on a leaf, reaching out for each other. In the middle of them, features an apple sliced in half. They are surrounded by mirrored intertwining vines and thorns, with some fantasy flowers throughout.

The issue isn't "you should be nice to him," the man is evil incarnate and fascists do not deserve civility.

The issue is that talking about his physical decline as an outward expression of his moral decline reinforces eugenic narratives equating bodily health with character.

I dunno man, I think precipitously canceling people's funding caused a lot of damage to other people's careers and lives and reputations and maybe they should live with the blowback. They come from a media ecosystem that makes public lists of insufficiently bigoted professors.

there’s a lot of people that want you to spend your time debating them and in fact you can just choose to ignore them and do something fun instead

im grabbing your hand to tell you. it’s not too late to start wearing a mask again. it’s better to wear a mask 1/4 of the time (or whatever your percent looks like) than not at all. there’s no shame in starting to be covid safe again even if you havent been for a long time. its okay

I’d love to know why Grammarly didn’t think this was going to happen. Like what team of clearly overpaid lawyers okayed this idea in the first place?
