I'm 100% for transparency and accountability, and there are major major failures wrt those when it comes to the intersection of wealth and power (as is our tradition), but also as is our tradition, we seem to want to sacrifice due process in pursuit of those worthy goals.
It does seem a little concerning that in the media and on Bluesky the cancellation of anyone Epstein-adjacent is being justified on the basis of people being friendly to him after his conviction, that nothing more is needed to push people into resigning.

So this seems like an exercise in saying-the-quiet-part-out-loud. The only acceptable housing for people that a state legislature deems as sex offenders is prison.
A significant portion of the homeless population is on the registry, due at least in part to laws making wide swaths of housing illegal. It's also illegal to be homeless (i.e., Grants Pass) and under this bill it's a felony for ppl on the registry to go to a shelter

it's really disheartening to see criminal justice reform advocates champion measures that are cloaked in the language of redemption and rehabilitation, but the fine print carves out wide swaths of people from relief for purely political reasons

My dad's 81 today. A year ago about this time he was in the hospital with sepsis but he was too stubborn to die. I'm thankful I got to have another year with him, just a little longer. He told me recently how proud he is of me, but I couldn't have done any of it without him.

The upshot, I think, of a lot of the jurisprudence that's developed over registries is that it is essentially a state of exception, where different rules and a different constitution applies, for inscrutable reasons.
