Gen X was the first generation to grow up in a post–Jim Crow era. We were the “experiment,” as many doubted we could live united. While some still cling to ignorance and hate to keep us divided, I believe there are far more of us who want a colorful, culturally rich, and beautifully blended society.

Republicans have had plenty of chances to put forward a real plan to lower everyday costs. They haven’t—because their priorities are clear.

They’re too busy protecting corporate greed and tax breaks for the wealthy instead of lowering costs for working people.
