So many awesome folks doing the #WhatAGameDevLooksLike thing this year! I'm not going to repost everything because it's a bit much, and I mostly don't post selfies, but you should definitely check out the hashtag. It's a nice reminder that the industry is diverse and this should be celebrated.

This is #WhatAGameDevLooksLike! I'm Nayan, I've been in gamedev for more than a decade, predominantly in the indie space. I've worked in publishing, marketing and content acquisition. Today I'm in dev as a producer and bizdev. Games are my life, and there's nothing else I'd rather be doing.

I can't be the only person who is constantly annoyed by how tiny the system tray clock in Win 11 is. And you can't modify the font size natively!

That was the first thing I thought of when the idea popped in my head. I was also reminded of a Bioware game that was announced years ago and talked about similar gameplay concepts, but was quietly cancelled. Wish I could remember what that game was called.

Naturally, you would also want to provide tools for easy campaign sharing online, so players without a DM can still enjoy it.

These are all elements that have been in games before, but now is the perfect time to bring back these ideas.

More than just an RPG Little Big Planet, the tools would need to offer DMs the ability to be present in the game, able to modify dialogue, enemy placement, or even the sequence of events as players are making their way through the world. It's a tall order, no question, but it would be very popular.

TTRPGs have exploded in recent years, and I think there's a lot of potential in creating a game that comes with powerful tools, but also a wealth of premade campaigns for DMs and players to familiarize themselves with the world and systems provided.

I'd love to see more asymmetrical multiplayer video games with an adventuring party vs. a dungeon master. One of the most essential parts of the design would be providing the DM with powerful but intuitive tools to build levels and stories, but also modify it on the fly mid campaign.

If asked, Redman would have absolutely done that.

I wish I had a 3 stack to play with. I don't like having to look online for people to play with, and none of my friends want to play it.

I assume this is discussion had with ppl who don't work in game dev? I've seen some insane takes from non-game dev people (like one I saw yesterday, where someone said that good games always succeed, and an unsuccessful game is a bad game)

With Arc Raiders, I had a similar problem, but once I found a regular 3 stack to play with every night, it disappeared. I just want to form a dedicated group that I play with every night.

Yeah, that's my issue right now. I wanna play more Marathon, but none of my friends want to buy it, so I'm stuck looking on other discords and forums for groups. It makes the hump larger.

I don't understand how this happens. When I was in school, I knew plenty about musicians that were famous before I was born, and I didn't even have the internet to aid me.

Yeah, especially for online games that require a headset, I often think "can I actually play without getting interrupted? I don't think so...or maybe I can" and I just sit there and play nothing.

Oh yeah, WFH is fucking that up for me too. I use the same PC for work and gaming.

Saw on the train today, Fukushima prefecture is doing a tourism campaign in partnership with Square-Enix, promoting Final Fantasy-like landscapes & touristic spots.

Cute stuff, I only found the 1st one in good quality.
