I though Github *was* a permanent repository, because it contained a commit history going back through all the previous versions of code.
So you could say, 'final code for paper was commit X', and someone could clone the repo and roll it back to there.

This is my intuition.
Ground-truth: rhythms are continuous. They *appear* regularly spaced due to the tools we use to resolve them.
Kinda like how there are older DTI papers saying 'white matter in the brain is organised like a grid', because 90' crossings are the easiest to resolve...
