Part of Trump’s mass appeal (and of why he’s so dangerous) is that he really seems to share Joe Barstool’s worldview that there are no complex problems: Everything has a simple brute solution, which previous leaders were somehow too stupid or weak to deploy.

Changing the clocks is always a good time to remind people that the entire concept of regulating time by clocks was driven by British colonial efforts to regulate labor practices & extract wealth from the colonies using railways (which required coordination). The clock has continued to play ...

Has anyone here used a validated secular questionnaire that they like to measure moral injury—one that can be used longitudinally and with healthcare professionals?

My searches have turned up MIOS and MISS-HP, which have religious elements.

OMIS is promising but wasn't validated longitudinally.

The Iran war is costing a minimum of 2 Billion dollars a day. Ten days of it could have eliminated homelessness in the US for good.

Iran’s people were facing a horrible shortage of water before the war began. If we are destroying desalination plants and setting fire to Teheran we are committing unfathomable crimes.

there's so much bad in the world but there's also people who lift up and carry an elderly bat around every day so he can pretend he's flying again, and that's the part of the world I think is worth fighting for

Where things stand with the Department of War A statement from Dario Amodei

I think one of the most staggering industry shifts in my 16 years as a tech reporter is that it’s not become a question of “should our product help the government kill and/or surveil people?” but “to what extent?”

And yet Congress, including many if not most Democrats, is going to race to vote $50 billion to pay for more war crimes instead of healthcare for struggling families. Apparently to be "electable" in America you have to be an accessory to mass murder. I am so disgusted right now

If you ever want to read a paper for free and can't find it otherwise, email the lead author and politely ask for a copy. You will not be bothering the person. You will in fact make their whole entire day. I have had scientists get so excited I asked they sent me everything they ever published.

Deeply conflicted, Kushner represents the U.S. in high-stakes negotiations with Iran Today in Geneva, Switzerland, Jared Kushner will represent the United States in meetings with Iranian officials — a last-ditch effort to avoid war.

Just a reminder: instead of an actual diplomat, we sent Trump’s deeply compromised son-in-law as the lead negotiator to avert war with Iran.

People keep comparing MAGA/ICE/CBP/MAHA to 1930s Germany.

It's also more and more like late 1960s China, during Cultural Revolution. Or mid 1970s Cambodia, during "Year Zero."

A war against knowledge itself.
