Behind the track: Hjartao hamast (bamm bamm bamm)
This one was always the odd one out. We had a hard time getting it into shape, and even today, the band feels it should've been ditched entirely. We struggled a lot - trying different things, keeping some,throwing others away. Our friend KK (Jónsi and Kjartan's studio partner) played harp at the start. We borrowed a Rhodes from Mezzoforte's Eypor and added a weird funky part that makes us blush now. Szymon Kuran improvised the violin solo, with Kjartan playing flute over it.
There are two bass tracks: the double bass handles the attack, the electric bass the sustain - an old Ken Thomas trick. The vocals are very closed and compressed. Looking back, Jónsi was probably hearing the true quality of his voice for the first time. The song is what it is. For some, it's an important part of the album. For us, we would've liked something different.
