I once got lost in a little JS project...
I took pictures of a 3D A380 model (3DS Max, I think) 256x256 pixels from all angles and distances, pre-loaded them, and the code was just Trust-pitch-roll-yaw.
Sprites on steroids. It looked pretty cool, with totally minimal compute cost.
