11x14” oil painting in progress of a toilet paper roll space shuttle, Earth, Moon, and stars
This piece is inspired by Bill Braun’s work. He does these amazing acrylic paintings that look like a kid’s construction paper art. This is a fun challenge for me, very tricky to do in oils, and takes you back to the child-like wonder we got from looking at the stars 😌

Photo of a drawing of mathematical art (descriptive geometry) next to a canvas showing the same drawing in an earlier stage (construction nearly done, no coloring yet). Both show how circles on a sphere containing the North Pole are projected onto lines. By elkement 2024/2026.
I am re-creating my 2024 drawing "Circles to Lines" on gesssoed and sanded canvas!
The construction is nearly done: Six circles on the surface of a sphere, containing the North Pole --> projected onto lines via stereographic projection.

This has been the first time I ordered a print larger than the original!
A positive surprise: I was wary about blowing up all the wobbly lines and magnifying each irregular blotch of color. Not only do I like exactly that, but I realize you normally look at wall art from a few meters away :)

DUST OF OSIRIS by Danielle Rose Baker. A painting of the top-down view of the opened sample return capsule from the OSIRIS-REx mission to asteroid Bennu. Circular sections and hexagonal bolts are seen among the rocky material in the middle ring, framed by lotus flower motifs and patterned circles with geometric ink designs drawn in an ancient Egyptian style with gold accents. A ring of painted turquoise, lapis and carnelian rectangles accented with gold surrounds the inkwork. Inspired by the decorative motifs of Tutankhamen’s treasures, and the Art Deco-tinged Egyptian Revival movement that arose from the discovery of said treasures.
DIANA PIERCES THE AZURE SKY by Danielle Rose Baker. An ink illustration of a Saturn V rocket and launch tower during the launch of Apollo IV. The top two-thirds is a roiling sky of clouds rendered in blue, dark teal and navy inks, some with shimmering effects. Outlined against this, the launch tower is seen in shades of brown-orange. The rocket is bathed in warm light and yellow-tinged exhaust expands below, with dark shapes outlining the base of the launch pad.
HUES OF VENUS by Danielle Rose Baker. A pearlescent false-color watercolor painting on black paper of the cloudy atmosphere of Venus as seen by the JAXA Atatsuki spacecraft in 2020. In this view, the clouds are seen in swirls and ribbons of gold and dark blue, combining to blue-grays.
UBEHEBE CRATER by Danielle Rose Baker. A watercolor painting of Ubehebe Crater at Death Valley National Park. An explosive volcanic crater dusted with snow against an overcast sky. The crater wall has many layers, in shades of brown, tan and orange. The foreground is darker brown, with lighter splotches of snow.
Huzzah, it’s #PortfolioDay !
I’m Danielle and I paint and illustrate spacecraft, planets, and interesting landscapes in watercolor and ink. Fond of ink textures and pointillism. No AI here, just space and rocks/geology. 🪐🪨🚀

Facebook post showing two of my caricatures, of Doc Brown, and a scene from Fawlty Towers. The text reads...
'If you've watched spitting image you might recognise the style of artist @tealcartoons. We have these two amazing originals unframed in our gallery.
We love his style and he's a great friend of the gallery, you might have caught him mentioning us on a recent Radio Northampton appearance. He captures the character of the people and the moment perfectly. You can just hear their voices in the scene as soon as you see them.
We'd love to see you at our grand opening tomorrow (Saturday 7th). We'll have fizz and nibbles and a lot of our artists will be popping by at various times throughout the day.'
It's a pleasure to be selling my work via @jackdawgalleryart.bsky.social. Please give them a follow here. They are a fantastic new gallery, and it's more important than ever that we support anyone selling real art by real people.

A digital image of a blue-and-cyan banded doughnut overlaid on a photograph of a spring sky bordered by oak trees breaking out in catkins
The book's dedication reads, "For everyone possessed of curiosity, honesty, and kindness." The image extends the dedication visually. Math, particularly real analysis, seems larger than us, yet is insubstantial, a creation of minds. Like all human creations made with good intent, math can be weaponized. Publishing a textbook that aims to present a body of traditionally-difficult material is therefore potentially perilous. But there is no way to publish or teach without risk; one can only be explicit about the perils, and enjoin learners to steer clear.
"Vortex" is a remake of the cover image of "An Invitation to Real Analysis" as a postcard. The looming sky torus is the image of a ray of slope π on a square torus, with color along the ray graded to highlight π~=22/7.

An embroidery of an inner ear done in bone white thread on dark purple linen. The centre of the spiral is labeled “nave of vibration”, the body of the inner ear is labeled “plumes of sound”, and the tubes are labeled “windows open.”
It’s #WorldHearingDay to raise awareness about hearing health and accessibility. Here’s my #SciArt #embroidery of the cochlea/inner ear—nave of vibration (2017)—which I did while researching my symptoms of hyperacusis.

Art Inspired by Physics - created with code or with pencils
These are mockups of canvas prints of the original artworks, sized according to the dimensions of the originals.
The canvas frame is 3cm thick, and I let the cathedrals melt - by manually (digitally, no AI :) ) distorting a mirrored version of the image.

Collage of five geometrical drawings - colored in the style of stained glass with watercolor pencils. Orthographic projections of functions used in physics, constructed from their 2D projections: Cones related to the theory of the gyroscope, Lissajous Figures, spins and stereographic projection, a mathematical tower from a spherical harmonic function.
I am using traditional descriptive geometry and watercolor pencils to turn functions used in physics into cathedrals from stained glass.
