Personally know a guy who got royally screwed by Seagram buying PolyGram during this time period. Completely upended the release date for his band's second major-label album, and they had to force their way out of their contract.

The Happy Dictator and The God of Lying were my favorite singles coming into the full release, but in the context of the tracklist, The Hardest Thing/Orange County hits hard. The Manifesto is solid too. Loved the two openers, plus Delirium.
Second listen through, I feel about the same... Think the front-half of the album is stellar... A few shrug moments in the home stretch, particularly the 3 tracks before the finale... But damn, what a finale, might be the best Gorillaz outro for an album since Demon Days.
Michael Burton and Andrew Beck are pretty damn good too... Wonder if Kubiak will try and lure over Brady Russell from Seattle? Didn't get nearly as many snaps on offense as Robbie Ouzts, but he's familiar with the system and has special teams value.
First listen through of the actual album: I like it. Not sure if it tops the first three records and Song Machine, but it might beat out Cracker Island and Humanz for me.

This is true. One of the best parts of Backyard Sports is the diversity of its cast, but I never got why the Hispanic characters all had the same skin tone, so Pablo’s redesign is def one of the better ones.
