Some of my primary influences are the wide variety of fashions that existed throughout the lifespan of the Ottoman Empire (especially given how multicultural the Ottoman Empire was). Others included specific eras of Imperial China (Yuan and Qing) and recently some traditional Iranian fashions

Especially since playing dress up with Raubahn kind of served as an original inspiration for me fleshing out traditional Ala Mhigan Fashion. I wanted to dress him & other Ala Mhigan NPCs in alternate outfit that fit the vision in my head.

One of these days I need to sit down and make a look book for the different outfits I use for Raubahn outside of his main equipment.

Since I do have a consistent idea for what his style is like in my head, and I feel like it could be a fun project!

using it thoughtfully with other pieces that make it more of a respectful outfit to the culture it came from is much better than a misguided attempt to cover up.

im not at all saying anyone has to be okay with either outfit. and theres nothing wrong with putting another top on it as an undershirt (honestly, i strongly dislike the cut of the top on m models bc i think the f version is nicer looking)
but i want to stress that putting a different shirt on it

Sexualization is a huge problem in orientalism.
It's not the only problem, and its not the only problem with those outfits.
There is nuance to skin being shown. The presence of skin is not inherently the issue.
(those pants are still hideous)

If you look at any modern sari, you would know the stomach showing isn't the issue. But people see that it's being called orientalist and the only association they have with orientalism is sexualization so they think any amount of skin showing is the foremost issue.

The top for the m outfit doesn't have a skin issue. The issue the M outfit has (other than the cut out on the pants being hideous) is that is shoving multiple cultures' outfits into one.
The top doesn't belong with the rest of the outfit.
The fact that its a cropped undershirt ISNT the problem.

They see orientalism, they're told there's sexualization issues and they're like. Ah yes, there is skin, that is the entire problem. The whole thing bad because skin, we must cover all the skin.

One of the things I'm like. Struggling to word. And I've been talking to friends about in VC is like. There is so much nuance to orientalism and the issues with the new outfits that a lot of people aren't. Really understanding.
