Your 'doom quote' for today:
"We have now become a society comfortable with lying to ourselves, to our friends, to our family, and even to our kids."

Your 'moment of doom' for Mar. 11, 2026 ~ Snake, meet tail.
"Yet AIβs performance in recent years has been criticized for inaccurate predictions when it comes to climate change, algorithmic bias, privacy concerns, lack of transparency and incorrect outputs..."

Your 'bonus moment of doom' for today:
"Over time, todayβs polluted inputs will change tomorrowβs models, causing them to overweight bad science and present politicized claims as evidence."

Here is the latest update on global sea-surface temperatures.
That spike in late February finally made it from "preliminary" to "final" and was scaled back by about 0.01Β°C. This made yesterday's SST of 21.075Β°C (preliminary) the hottest of the year (so far).
In other news, the latest NOAA data is showing that new methane continues to trend downward.
At the current rate of decline, the Glasgow Compact goal of reducing anthropogenic methane 30% by 2030 will be attained somewhere around 2037 to 2040.
Your 'moment of doom' for Mar. 7, 2026 ~ We have cookies.
"At this point, it is hard to see another ending other than the Earth being eternally doomed. With the rate of the world heating and no change in reaction, it seems that fate is inevitable."

Your 'doom quote' for today:
"Scientists believe that the coming period of rapid climate change is likely to be erratic, disruptive, and unpredictable. Local weather patterns may shift suddenly and dangerously." (June, 1996)

Dr. Tom Harris over on Substack posted an image he created that shows the loss of Albedo expressed in the width (in kilometers) of mirrors circling the equator needed to make up for the Albedo loss (assuming a clear sky).

Your 'doom quote' for today:
"What the Hell ever happened ... to the meek inheriting the Earth, anyway? By the time that happens, the only 'Earth' left to inherit will be a bunch of scorched jungle, mountains of slag, and bottomless pits of chemical poison"
www.lulu.com/shop/hambone...
The more you know ...
The Earth has gained the equivalent of about 5.7 *billion* Hiroshima bombs worth of planetary heating since January, 2000.
About 89% of that heat went into heating the oceans. The rest to melt ice and snow, heat land and heat the atmosphere.
Your global ocean sea-surface temperature update for March 8, 2026 (excuse the technical language):
Still f&%ked, not as f&%ked as it appeared to be a week ago, but significantly less f&%ked then it will be after El Nino gets going later this year.

Here's a new look at SSTs, now including the official boundaries for "Gobsmacking Bananas," "Uncharted Territory" and "Totally F&%ked".
Look at 1998/99, 2016/17 and 2024/25. This is what to expect in 2027/28 if a monster El Nino comes to pass later this year.
I was recently a guest on the podcast "Project Save the World" hosted by Metta Spencer.

"Compounding the problem, climate change is creating more opportunities for bird flu to spread across species β including humans β as unpredictable weather and warming winters impact avian behavior."

Your 'doom quote' for today:

My latest blog post:
"No one individually, no society and no other generation of humans on earth has ever had to process events of this magnitude or attempt to express thoughts like these in the context of overwhelming scientific evidence backing this view."

For those on tenterhooks:
Arctic sea-ice extent is still below the record low maximum set just last year and is falling again. Will a new record low maximum for Arctic sea-ice extent be set this year?
The Climate 8-Ball is busy learning to juggle.
Your 'moment of doom' for Mar. 10, 2026 ~ Ocean acidification.
"The scene, not unlike a toxic red tide, was the result of 65,000 litres of an alkaline chemical, tagged with a red dye, that had been deliberately pumped by scientists into the ocean."

Your 'doom quote' for today:
"We should all get comfortable with living with contradictions in this era of exponential change and unfurling powers. Assume the worst, plan for it, give it everything."

Breaking News!
Code UFB!!!
The February, 2026, data for total column precipitable water was just released by ECMWF, and once again a new record high was set for the 36-month running mean.
The Climate 8-Ball says: "Even more car soup!"
About half of the world's human population lives in the Northern mid-latitudes (30N - 60N). That region also set a new record high for total column precipitable water (36-month running mean) in February, 2026.

One last graphic showing Arctic sea-ice volume, running second behind 2017, this one using the "monthly average" volume posted by PIOMAS.
The accelerating Arctic sea-ice catastrophe is bad enough, no need to catastrophize.
