“But, as you see, it's a beautiful day, the Strait of Hormuz is open and people are having a wonderful time.”
I think American fascism has some of it's roots in the idea that "the heirarchy I belong to is supposed to insulate me from consequences" and when that unstoppable force meets an immovable object it creates a rejection of the real that only reinforces the loop
A striking feature of Trump and his team is: they somehow imagine a world in which they are the only actors, only ones with power, and whether it's Tehran or Minneapolis are surprised when it turns out others do. There are many kinds of power and many nations with power.

This is incredibly on point.
Spot oil prices grab the news, but it’s the impact we’re about to witness to petrochemical and derivative production that should really scare the shit out of folks.
It’s the sort of shock that could ripple through our global industrial economy for many months.

The Department of Homeland Security, which oversees ICE and Border Patrol, is using a broad web of surveillance tools — purchased as its budget has ballooned under this administration — to monitor, apprehend and intimidate the people it seeks to deport and the U.S. citizens critical of its policies.
Thank you! At an event last night I said "If the word hope doesn't work for you try, 'Never fucking surrender.'" The word hope seems too sunny to a lot of people, but the heart of it as I'm interested in it is: we make the future in the present, if we show up, and that never surrender part.
I suspect Hegseth/Miller think a silent majority will rally to zero-sum nationalism (tariffs), treating all immigrants as criminals, and a kill-first-think-later military posture (what Hegseth calls the “warrior ethic”). It's a big deal that this isn't happening. 6/

Pete Hegseth's murderous buffoonery, coming amid a lifetime in which he's betrayed everyone close to him and failed up from one disaster to the next, is a perfect example of how the appeal of Trumpism is that it creates a permission structure for people to openly be their worst selves
Someday when he's gone we should pile all his shit on top of Mar aLago. His fancy Qatari plane, plunked down onto the swimming pools. Statues, chunks of his stupid ballroom, Trump lettering from Kennedy Ctr, just piled haphazardly everywhere. When the seas rise to take it all, the fish will love it.

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM
A war that isn't a war, documented with videos that may or may not be real, funded by elected leaders who are neither for nor against it, is the most dystopian thing that's happened in my lifetime
Iraq plunged into nationwide blackout as US tells citizens to leave immediately
www.turkiyetoday.com/region/iraq-...
a thing historians will marvel about when they study this era is the extent to which the "war is a thing that happens to poorer, browner people" class went about systematically dismantling every aspect of the global political order that confined the costs of war to poorer and browner people

Drone strike on British base. Limited damage or no, this shows what Iran & its proxies are willing to do, to whom, and the beginnings of where.
Don't know about you, but I have my eyes peeled for how drone warfare escalates outside of the Ukraine/Russia conflict.

Today should be your 38th birthday.. When you lose your son you lose more than a child you lose a piece of your heart and your joy. Life is forever altered, and nothing can ever fill that space. Yet in my soul, he remains, my precious boy, forever loved. His laughter, his smile, and his love are woven into who I am. My love for him will never fade. Yor are my pride and my joy - you've made a change that cannot be broken..
