Thatβs why Iβm building @tiles.run. Already integrated on device models and DID. ATProto, Iroh based P2P sync and Pi based agent harness in works to be shipped before April :)
Tiles version 0.4.3 Alpha 7 has been released.
tiles.run/download
Turn-based chats with SQLite persistence. Release artifacts now include a .pkg bundle for easier installs. Support for non-Harmony models such as qwen 3.5-4b. Bug fix for venvstack generating multiple tar archives.
So many Atproto apps now β€οΈ
But data layer interop means you don't *have* to "go" anywhere.
Concept demo of inverting things:
- local index of lexidex
- local cache of all your 'cons and records
- generic 'con-to-form engine
Now I can post, rsvp, bookmark all from the comfort of home.

How do we get to more than just three web engines owned by three US companies?
It's a gargantuan question, with no easy or right answer.
I've put together a draft report, thinking about it through a very specific approach - please enjoy:

Wrote a mini-essay, "Digital Topology & Economic Power", on how the file went from a site of user agency to one of enclosure β through proprietary formats, data internalization, then the cloud. Each step bundling real gains with a quiet transfer of power.

This is our third time out with Local-First Conf!
In past years we've thoroughly explored some core topics like sync engines and CRDTs.
In 2026, we're broadening into areas like identity, e2ee, malleable software, and open-weight models.
travelling in April!
not sure I like cities in India, I like slow places, like in the hills. I love northeast
I like slow places and hills lol
for the record I donβt like Bangalore
preach
user agency is anti-capitalist.
when not explicitly anti-capitalist,
user agency is capitalism-retardant.
In 2014 I gave a talk called Tiny (keep things small enough to understand) In 2026, small means something different. Small means safe to delete. New in the Phoenix Architecture series: The Regenerative Grain.
I live in a science fiction novel.
Tiles runs local AI.
That means the Python runtime must be deterministic and portable across machines.
With Alpha 4, we now bundle layered venvstacks with pinned dependencies to guarantee reproducible execution.
How it works: www.tiles.run/blog/move-al...
I think AGI is an AI deployment question (decentralized vs centralized) instead of a purely algorithmic one.
Added support for making claims of a @tangled.org account, thanks to a PR by @jauntywk.bsky.social

All peer-to-peer systems have to compromise one way or another on this: they can decide that direct P2P is essential and simply fail, they can provide centralized fallback alternatives, or they can try to find/convince/incentivize another peer to route traffic on your behalf.
gifted this book to @ruperts.world :)
feels like the first chapter of accelerando
Also install GrapheneOS!
Which Pixel?
was it loaded via http+dns+ssl?
then it's server-first.
(which is not bad. but it's not the local-first i want.)
this is pretty good
Coding agents crossed a line this year: theyβre useful enough that people are going to use them at work, whether the tooling is ready or not. So... here's some tooling!
