I knew I could provide my code under multiple licenses and let the user choose the one they want.

Today I learnt GitHub supports it, by adding a comment in my code for their tooling like:

SPDX-License-Identifier: MIT OR Apache-2.0 OR MPL-2.0 OR LGPL-3.0-only OR GPL-3.0-only

Yes, but the "ecosystem" was prepared well before Trump, by the GOP southern strategy, the Reagan administration, the Chicago economists, the Kochs, Murdoch, the Tea Party...

Trump is only the rotten cherry on the shit cake.

And the terrifying fact is that a majority of people voted for him BECAUSE he is the worst people who has ever lived.

They have been brainwashed for years into such a hate of imaginary "libs" as to only want to hurt "them", whatever the consequences. Trump was for them the perfect weapon.

I would advise setting up daily automated backups.

This happens sometime to me (with firefox). I just then restore the browser directory from yesterday.

Daily backups are invaluable for so many things...

I even make a backup of my firefox state on each change, and keep last 100 backups.

infancy

"We hold the adult to account" demonstrate my point: it is because we do not consider the child to be able to properly take decisions (see "mens rea"), so they are not considered responsible of their acts.

(At least in civilized countries, thus not all USA states).

www.law.cornell.edu/wex/infancy

13.03.2026 17:18 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Of course NOT.

Kids cannot "choose" to have sexual relations with an adult, because the laws consider that their consent can be too easily manipulated and is not a free choice.

See also laws about "vulnerable adults", "elder abuse", "Financial Exploitation", "Contractual Capacity"...

Laws formally protect them, more than adults.

We are discussing of the concept of democracies.

Of course, people violate the laws. It does not mean there should be no laws. That's why the civilized societies have legislative, judiciary and executive powers

Basically, if you say children can vote you also must say they can decide to have sexual relations with adults.

13.03.2026 14:49 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Technically, children benefit from protections (legal and civil responsibilities, pedophilia, ...) because society, for the common good, finds that they must be protected from dangers they have not yet the cognitive abilities to to face

It is logical to also consider they lack the abilities to vote

13.03.2026 14:46 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

All 16yo are treated equally. None can vote.

QED.

13.03.2026 14:35 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

You miss the point totally.

There is NO 16-year old that can vote. So all children are "equal in rights".

You would have a point if some 16yo, by chance of birth, could vote.

Inventing new weird meaning to words is a bit... laughable?
childish? Trumpian?

We can all also invent our own meaning for democracy if you go this way.

... but this only amounts to 1.2% of the population, not 30%

Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen - Wikipedia

No for felons, because:

"Men are born and remain free and equal in rights. Social distinctions may be based only on considerations of the common good."

What is forbidden is restraining the rights at birth (skin color, gender, ...).

But yes, because ...

GOP Messaging: β€œWe Are Not a Democracy” - The American Leader The Republican Party has promoted the narrative that we are not a democracy to prepare its constituents for minority rule.

Also, the "The USA are a republic but not a democracy" is nefariously loaded MAGA propaganda. We should avoid repeating it.

We agree.

I was just pointing that the original poster seemed to think that the term "democracy" (and also "republic") had much more requirements than in reality and in definition (aka, both de facto and de jure)

I released a new version of my Mailpixtracker: a lightweight, Bash CGI script designed to track email opens via an invisible 1x1 pixel. Think of MailTracker or MailTrack or MailSuite, but for basic personal use, without all the marketing tools.

And that's why you need gun and arms control.

Every weapon, from a pistol to a nuke can risk falling in the hands of a senile criminal maniac.

Exactly.

"Democracy" only implies that all people (whatever their sex, wealth, ...) have the right to vote to elect their representation.

The details on the mechanics on how the representatives are selected and elected is not part of the definition. Nor the recall or impeachment mechanisms.
