Henslow's Sparrows. For the last few years we've been allowed to flag off a five-acre patch of grassland from being mowed to allow them to nest and raise young.

The gods brought forth life but didn't set the rules. A platypus and a cat mated to produce a turtle. The god was disgusted and puked up lightning that cooked them into two loaves of bread and was served to it on the turtle shell.

Or the ornithologist opening the next drawer only to find a Curlew and "ah sh..".

They must have been going in reverse order, taxonomically, as they hadn't yet come to the shorebirds. (If I could draw, I'd have this bird full of pomp realizing his station on coming up to an Eurasian Curlew)

Especially when it is a dark-morph on the side of the interstate, there are miles between exits, and you know it's not going to be there when you get back there...yet you do it.

Siskins wouldn't usually be in contact much with poultry. These irruptive birds are stressed and may have a compromised immune system and carry a higher load. They are also feeding and bathing en-masse so it is imperative that people clean feeders and birdbaths more often during irruptive years.

Is there a white patch on the wing for a Black-throated Blue Warbler?

@evornithology.bsky.social would the female Wood Duck here be showing some male plumage characteristics due to age and lower hormone production, or is it something else entirely?

They think they need to convert republicans to democrats, so they don't want to alienate them, when in reality they should be looking to those who don't vote at all.

If they want people to get IDs and everyone has a right to vote, then they should make the application for ID free.

The rich landowners showed-off by spending money on importing exotic waterfowl like flamingos, pelicans, swans and geese. This is more of the same. Spend the money on habitat or the birds that are still struggling here.

The frozen waters drove some birds to the only open waters in the area at the reservoirs, Lexington, KY.

I wanted to post these photos to show how the shape of a Scaup head can change depending on the birds activity. Sometimes a head shape isn't the clincher on ID. #BIRDID

It's a frenzied mob. It's exactly how so-called normal people went mad on Jan 6 when riled by those amongst them.

Next they'll be saying that we shouldn't go out into nature as that is in fact a greater disturbance. Pishing, in my mind, is a curiosity trigger rather than a stress inducer. They use completely different response sounds and activity in comparison to a mobbing tape.

Agreed. The rewetting of bogs in Ireland is a prime example whereby Common Cranes now breed there. Spending money on restoration of habitat is a lot better way to spend money and helps a lot more species.

I wonder do Eastern Gray Squirrels get jealous of Eastern Fox Squirrels' tails? This one spent quite a while grooming.
