Ok, it's in Hessels III.ii, 2628-29 (nr. 3843) and 2653 (nr. 3890) but no specifics ☹️

Van Meteren jr gives documents in store to the church, I'll look up the reference in Hessels to see if it gives a clue as to where exactly they are being kept

Yes, "onder" might mean "among" if "schrifterij" means "writings/documents" but it might also mean "in the keeping of" if "schrifterij" is a place but I think you're right that the former makes more sense.

02.03.2026 16:31 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 3 πŸ“Œ 0

There was one, I think, but cant remember where I read it

02.03.2026 15:47 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Ah so they used the word schrifterij in the sense of librije - a place where you keep writings

02.03.2026 15:46 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I haven't come across it either. Had I been allowed to guess I'd ventured it were the old scriptorium of Austin Friars

When you repeat a lie, you spread it.
When you spread a lie, you strengthen it.
When you strengthen a lie, you become an accomplice to it.
In this disinformation age, we must do better.
Avoid falling into simple propaganda traps.

Friends & colleagues: please allow me in little self-promotion. I'll be in Ghent 25 May-15 June and Leiden 16 June-7 July for research (geopolitics permitting!). If anyone would like me to come talk to their group/class about my 1572 project, I am happy to do so. Just send me a DM. #earlymodern

But Rubio said such nice things in Munich!

Americans will squeeze us for every last drop as long as we remain dependent on their tech and military. They have been bullying Latin and South America, the Arabs, the Vietnamese... It's not new.
What's new is the technology used, and the target: us.
