this is the only CD I ever released on my short-lived label... wasn't expecting to see anyone post this today! some trivia: the music series at alt coffee evolved into tonic. without the scene documented on this compilation, NYC music history would be quite different.
Congratulations Wendy!
βdream baby dreamβ should be next in the medley.
Am I hallucinating or is the White House pianist really playing βsomewhere over the rainbowβ while they wait for you know who? Someone should flag this for a future Adam Curtis doc.
I recently watched "Victims of Sin" on criterion- outstanding! Noir melodrama musical with Perez Prado...
outstanding day to work on taxes. really feels amazing.
Solid advice. I like listening to it in spring with the windows open. RIP a true artist.
Alysia Liu gave us something that all the disgusting monsters running this mess of a country/world will never understand: joy. I'm not into figure skating either but everyone should see what this incredible person did yesterday. First time I felt anything positive seeing a USA flag in MANY years.
Wait⦠is _figure skating_ restoring a little of my faith in humanity
thinking about sampling this and doing an "it's gonna rain" type thing.
It was the quote from the receptionist that really got me. Obviously they're trustworthy- they're rich. And everyone at every level of the institution received that message. I've seen it so many times.
Everyone in arts education and/or fundraising needs to read this... and think very seriously about what we are doing.
for the who
Wowβ¦ love this. Feels very resonant with what I experienced with Braxton 35yrs ago - and last week (see recent post). Iβm pretty sure I saw Ra on that winter 1990 New England tour (northampton show) but I didnβt know about any of this.
Time _is_ a flat circle. Re both this cd and the dollar bin it came from.
Iβm on my way to soundcheck right now. Thereβs going to be a bonus improv set featuring Joe Morris, Anna Webber, Frank C, our guest artists and yours truly. This will be the first time Iβve played with Braxton in about 30 years.
Hey, this very early Sun Ra - excuse me, Sunny Blount - live recording from 1949 just showed up on YouTube. I gather it's on some rarities CD, but I would assume most haven't heard it. I seem to have been the first viewer! Wilbur Ware on bass! www.youtube.com/watch?v=jCX0...

I thought you were talking about Ramsey Lewis for a second.
The Wong Kar-Wai mini-fest at the long-gone Chinatown theater by the Manhattan bridge. Pretty sure that was the first time any of his films were screened in nyc.
I just saw the program for Steve Drury's upcoming solo recital at Jordan Hall. He's playing Wolff's "Hay una Mujer Desaparecida (after Holly Near)" and Rzewski's "The People United Will Never Be Defeated." I'll say this for Steve, he knows what time it is.
