this sucks. no patience for the people laughing at it, calling it concord 2.0, etc. if 2 million people pick up a game, and you have to shutter it and lay everyone off, it doesn't matter if the game is good or bad. it's a symptom of a much bigger and deeper problem.
For games I've worked on, the vertical slices that shipped with the game are:
* Fallout: New Vegas (Novac, REPCONN Test Site + surroundings)
* Pillars of Eternity (Dyrford + Crossing, Tempe of Skaen, Clรฎaban Rilag)
* Deadfire (Tikawara, Poko Kohara)
* Pentiment (Act I lol)
Well then. After 9 years my role of Editorial Director at Eurogamer/IGNE has been made redundant. If youโre reading this and feel I have a lot of valuable experience (I do), Iโm keen to explore any opportunities (full time, consulting, other) in the games industry. I am great.
After months working in the shadowsโฆ meet Curse of Resthaven.

More dev secrets soon.
Check out this trailer for IGTAP: An Incremental Game That's Also A Platformer, a new... incremental game that is also a platformer!
Itโs not about whether you personally like or dislike remote work - itโs about executives trying to strip options, jobs & rights away from *everybody*.
Working remotely is not just a better setup for many disciplines: it allows teams to include different people w/ different strengths & experiences.
the cycle of โdevs working for years to make a game > game launches (and it doesnโt matter how successful it is) > two week waiting period > most of the team laid offโ is not only entirely unsustainable but genuinely horrifying
Take a look at the gameplay for Replaced, where players will assume the role of an AI confined to a human body to bring the secrets of a sinister corporation to light. Launching on March 12 for Xbox X|S, Xbox Game Pass, and PC.
Layoffs directly after launch is a normalized part of the dev cycle. But who's responsible for that? Not the actual game workers.
It's time we take our power back.

NEW: Last month, I went to Dreamhaven to talk about Sunderfolk, an unusual RPG that launched the day between Oblivion Remastered and Clair Obscur
Dreamhaven's led by ex-Blizzard folks. We discussed not having Blizzard-level success--and what theyโre doing about it

they are very small and they're having an urgent meeting about it
Following the disastrous announcements made by Mr. Yves Guillemot (cost-cutting plan, projects scrapped, end of remote working, etc.), the Solidaires Informatique union is calling for a strike on Thursday, January 22, in the morning. We are calling on Ubisoft Paris employees to strike for half a day, with the following demands: โข the end of the cost-cutting plan, โข maintaining and extending the teleworking conditions, โข decent pay raises this year. This is an initial answer to the absurdity of management's decisions. Other strikes are currently being discussed. It is out of the question to let a boss run wild and destroy our working conditions. Perhaps we need to remind him that it is his employees who make the games.
UBISOFT - Call for strike

Iykyk, but the one thing I've learned about game dev very early on is that if there's a big controversial writing decision, the writing team will have flagged it, they were ignored, and they will be the ones blamed regardless
Call me old-fashioned, but I think itโs incredibly crass to demand certain (controversial) story beats from your writing team, fire that writing team, then throw that writing team under the bus for decisions *they didnโt make* while marketing your new thing.
Very crass! Very ick!

A slide that reads "Presenting games primarily as consumer products undermines arguments to preserve and make them accessible as an art form." from a MAGFest panel. That panel from the Dark Knight Returns where he breaks the gun also is on there.
That's what I'm talking about.
I have an art book for #tyreecomic ! It's 62 pages at $10! Not only does it have art but I have some brief guides into my page process as well. There is even stuff I havent released publicly in it! It's a great way to support me currently and get a glimpse into my obsession

A giant 4-legged spider made of different street lamps and signs, with a central body of a traffic light up top. the traffic lights all look like spider eyes. Wings hang from the bottom that also look like feelers/fangs
An enemy concept for ENGINE ANGEL: Traffic Angels.
Angels who have infested stoplights and more, these spiders can change the speed & power of other enemies & players within their gaze, effect varying by light.
They believe humans stop to admire traffic lights thus beeline for crowds of attention.
