The Greenbelt is a vast territory that forms a horseshoe shape around Ottawa โ but itโs also so much more than that. From Shirleys Bay to Mer Bleue, every corner of this ecologically diverse area tells a different story.
Tell us what you love the most about the Greenbelt, and why. ๐
This Valentineโs Day, weโre sending a little love to our National Capital Greenbelt. ๐๐

The new system:
๐ฒ Creates significant savings
๐โโ๏ธ Allows us to reopen the docks up to two weeks earlier
Check out this system in action while you enjoy a snack at the Cafรฉ & Bistro, open Friday to Sunday, from 9 am to 4 pm.
3๏ธโฃ Propellers are placed in strategic areas and push floating ice away from the docks
4๏ธโฃ The docks are protected by the breakwater and building itself, as the river flows eastwards
How does the new de-icing system work?
1๏ธโฃ The bubbler system uses propellers and tubes that sit on the riverbed and emit bubbles
2๏ธโฃ Deep water doesnโt freeze, so the bubbles bring warmer water to the surface to reduce the rate of ice formation
Swimming season is over, but thanks to bubbles, the docks are still in! ๐ฅ
Previously, we had to disconnect the NCC River Houseโs floating dock, barge it to Blair Road boat launch, remove it with a crane, and do the reverse in spring. This was a lot of work!
โWe want Ottawa to succeed. We want it to succeed for residents. We want it to succeed for visitors.โ
