Like most autistic folk I found Uta Frith’s recent remarks rather shocking in her dismissal of autistic lived testimony. It should be noted that Frith’s theory of ‘weak central coherence’ has been reorientated from a deficit account to a difference account by some autistic researchers and advocates.
This is your friendly reminder that when it comes to debates about autism being over or under diagnosed, there are more options than 1) expand autism or 2) leave people who would likely benefit from a diagnosis without a diagnosis. #autism

Research note: Kanner's original N=11 autistics had extremely heterogeneous later outcomes, as generally did the autistics he reported on, as generally did diagnosed autistics in the literature before the "spectrum" became a thing (just a brief reminder, in case anyone's forgotten)

Imv, autistic researchers and advocates should cease saying that autistic people don’t know they are as a consequence of masking. It is an enfeebling narrative and feeds into anti trans and anti self diagnosis narratives.
