Sheesh, talk about stepping on your own dick. If your first instinct is to defend "Birth of a Nation" as misunderstood, you've already exposed yourself as a fuckwit.

Very beautiful piece from @davekarpf.bsky.social about the loss of his beloved dog, Sherlock. Agreed that anyone who's lost a pet can relate. Definitely worth the read.
Shouting out some local Fredericktown, MO boys - Flat River Band, the Sitze boys. Their grandpa, MG, ran the barbershop. Here's them with the Oak Ridge Boys on a great collab - youtu.be/FTyEK8MPfFo. Anytime my home town isn't notable for kidnapping, murder, or poor education is a good day.
I had no idea there was a festival dedicated to Rod Serling, but it makes me very happy to learn it. If you've never watched TZ, the themes are as applicable today as they were then. True visionary.
To any Vatican assassins who may be reading this post: I want to state, unequivocally, the Pope has yet to refute any of my reporting on the #Quiltnocracy. I think we ALL must ask ourselves why that is...
+1 for Ghost! As a glutton for punishment, I've been self-hosting for years, but their hosted version is cheap and as controversy-free as any online platform can be in the 20s. Good luck with the switch and I'll follow along.
Thank you! β€οΈ
Thank you Redhead! β€οΈ
3/Despite it (or because of it) they all created better lives for their kids. Trish earned her Masters and worked at the community college level as an educator and admin. I don't say this to garner sympathy, but to let you know who she is. I thank you in advance! πβ€οΈ
2/My grandpa Joe was a WW2 vet who drank himself to death in his 30s, leaving behind 5 kids. My grandma, God rest her, picked up where he left off, working as a nurse in pre-welfare Missouri and drinking the rest of the time. I wouldn't raise dogs in some of the places my Mom lived as a child.
1/Good morning BSky fam. Need to ask a favor. I need all the prayers and positive healing vibes y'all can muster for my aunt Trish who found out yesterday she has a pretty advanced ovarian cancer. Chemo, etc, but prognosis is not great. Trish, and all my Mom's siblings, came up from a rough start.
3/One thing that miffes me - Mastercard crapping their logo all over the official video because they're sponsoring his tour (stadiums, btw). But it ain't 1970. We say "shit" casually in songs and the music industry is dying. At least it's not AI-generated. Agree or disagree? What do you guys think?
2/But there's a lot of great songwriters. Flash in the pan? Maybe. But check this out - youtu.be/eIV330sRz34. That's a packed Fenway Park singing along with every word. Maybe it's just me and that's ok, but there's something about this guy's songwriting that resonates with me.
1/I don't say this lightly at all, but Noah Kahan has the potential to be up there with John Prine. "The Great Divide" is such a FANTASTIC song - youtu.be/wRzEvqbrn2c. Man, what a writer. My wife turned me on to "Stick Season" last year, and I enjoyed it, but this is something more.
Republicans: this what you voted for?
Of course this idiot from Missouri has to be in the picture with a big ol' shit eatin'grin on his face, as we say down home.
5/The 2nd uncoolest thing? Lip syncing. Kid Rock managed to do both in a single performance - www.youtube.com/live/nJszMT9... (embarrassingly he didn't even TRY during Bawitdaba). Tho he does now look like the meth heads in the trailer park next to my friend's house. The circle is complete? π
4/I grew up on Kid Rock in the 90s and he had a certain swagger back then. My parents hated him, which was its own seal of approval. Back then, the absolute UN-coolest thing you could be was a sellout and a political shill. My how times have changed! No one can be cool forever, I suppose.
3/Do I have a problem with any of these topics? Of course not, but don't go waving your "holier than thou" morals in my face when Kid "Balls In Your Mouth" Rock is your headliner (Rodgers and Hammerstein it ain't - genius.com/Kid-rock-bal...). Let's talk about Mr. Ritchie for a sec.
2/Contrast that with the TPUSA (I know what "TP" means in my house π) show, "Faith, Family, Freedom" and Christian values, eh? "Dirt Road Anthem", a paean to drunk driving, Gabby Barrett's "I Hope", the "Louisville Slugger" of the 20s, and "Bawitdaba", an anthem to drug use and...mosh pits?
1/Good morning fam! Sorry to be away for so long. Busy! Dug BB's perf at the Bowl, made me realize I should learn some Spanish. After Kendrick last year, I have to give the NFL some props for bravery. Even tho Bunny's got 1B+ views on a single YT vid (all in Spanish), it took guts to put this on rn.
Awesome brother! Thank you! β‘
5/These things make a difference. In "The Emperor Has No Clothes", they're the townspeople. We have to make them see it, but once they do, things will start to change. It is what it is. Wake up the sleeping giant and we might have a chance.
4/But here's the thing - once you lose them, they're GONE. It's like turning around an oil tanker. Their opinions are mist, impossible to grasp. And they absolutely decide our fate. If you want to reach someone? Reach them. Keep knitting and conscientious objecting. Keep talking without yelling.
3/They don't protest, but they also don't go to Trump rallies. They've always been there, back to the Revolutionary War. They're the underwater part of the iceberg. Nixon's point? He felt he had their support, and he probably did for a while. Ditto Trump, as is clear from his actions.
2/Imho, this is one of the most effective forms of resistance: quietly powerful, hugely influential. Pat Buchanan (of all fscking ppl) coined a phrase when he was Nixon's speechwriter: "the silent majority". The 90% who aren't rabidly pro-government or anti-government, who don't post on socials.
1/I remember the early 00s and Iraq 2: The Sequel when the FBI spied on craftspeople, librarians, Quakers, and any other group that couldn't be "dirtied up". It's easy to make ppl fear the Black Panthers, not so when it's 60 year olds knitting antigovernment slogans. The playbook hasn't changed.
Late 70s Dead is some of the best.
Oooh! This looks pretty damn cool - www.jambase.com/article/litt.... And long overdue, imho! There's a story in one of the Dead books about Lowell George in the studio with the boys, walking round in overalls with a bag of coke in the hammer loop.
Ah the 80s! What a time to be alive! π¬
3/You've all seen the vid of Alex Pretti eulogizing a patient who passed. He worked a low paying, thankless job at the VA, when I'm sure he could have made more in private practice. He died protecting a woman from ARMED THUGS. Why do you think he did those things? RIP Alex Pretti, a GOOD MAN. πβ€οΈ
