Rifleman Sheldon Steel from Bramley died fighting alongside the US in Afghanistan. He was 20. Thatโ€™s not avoiding the frontline - thatโ€™s putting everything on the line in the fight for freedom.

Following these remarks from the US President, Iโ€™m thinking of Rifleman Steelโ€™s family and friends.

Bramley Baths in Leeds has gone a step beyond community-led - it's now community-owned. ๐ŸŠโ€โ™‚๏ธ

That's a community asset in community hands - securing a long-term future as a place Bramley residents can meet, swim and socialise.

Councillor @tomhinchcliffe.bsky.social explains.

NEW: The government has launched a new national road maintenance rating system.

Itโ€™s great that Leeds has one of the highest ratings. Thereโ€™s more to do. I report potholes in our community most weeks and have regular meetings with the Highways team to ensure repairs are done.

Tory cuts to our local budgets over the last 14 years have decimated SEND provision. They want us to forget what got us into this mess.

At Full Council, I spoke about West SILCโ€™s fantastic post-16 provision and this Labour government's recent investments in SEND provision.

Our first Leeds City Council Outer West Community Committee meeting of the year is Monday 30th June from 1pm at Farnley Hall. It would be great to see residents there as we take decisions on funding applications for community projects, as well as decide on our local priorities for the upcoming year.

Following ours and local residents' representations to West Yorkshire Police, a Section 61 has now been agreed and the Travellers will be moved on from Bramley Falls sports pitches today.

Our next steps will be to review the damage on the site, arrange repairs and look into preventative measures.

Any child whose parents receive Universal Credit will be able to get free school meals.

This change will benefit many in Bramley, Stanningley and Rodley, saving families around ยฃ500 a year.

Under the Tories, military homes fell into disrepair.

Labour is setting new standards, with better move-in conditions, more reliable repairs, and a named housing officer for every family.

Our community shouldnโ€™t have to put up with rising crime or antisocial behaviour.

Thatโ€™s why Labourโ€™s Crime and Policing Bill will give police and communities power to take back our streets and tackle serious violence.

NEW: Today, the Labour government announces the first schools that will become the first to offer a new free breakfast club.

I'm pleased that Bramley St. Peter's Primary School will benefit from this initial rollout. This will ensure children are fed and parents can drop them off in time for work.

OWN GOAL: Tory leader, Kemi Badenoch has refused to support the government on introducing a football regulator.

As #LUFC fans, we know how important it is to prevent inappropriate owners taking charge of clubs for financial profit with no interest in improving the club.

Today, my thoughts are with the Jewish Community in Leeds and across the UK.

80 years since Auschwitz was liberated, we remember the six million Jews murdered in the Holocaust and all victims of the Nazis.

We must stamp out antisemitism wherever it rears its ugly head.

This Labour Government is prioritising those who risk everything in defence of our freedoms.

๐Ÿ‘จโ€๐Ÿš’ At the meeting of the West Yorkshire Fire Authority People and Culture Committee this morning, I praised the work of Stanningley Fire Station in tackling the bin arson in Bramley Park.

Delighted that fire fighters attended Bramley parkrun to raise awareness of these issues.
