as a guy in the Portland music scene with a show at Twilight this weekend I am keeping all my public thoughts diplomatic and professional but yeah, it's a really weird push for a band that size

this was because I joined a band out here when I first moved back to Portland and I was like "this is incredible I've never heard anything like this" and the other guitarists was like "dude we're just ripping off Circa Survive" and I was like "whoa, okay, let me check that out"

not really the same genre, but I wrote off Circa Survive in that time frame and finally checked them out in like 2014 and went "holy shit, WHAT? Where has THIS been?"

I don't know if I even know that one, I was a massive fucking contrarian during that entire time period and thought I was too cool for all of those bands. I've gone back and revisited most of them with an open mind and have largely felt like "yeah I didn't miss anything here" lol

especially because even back in the day they were always, as the kids say, "mid" even when compared to their peers!
