We’re in SF, mildest climate in the Bay, no AC, no EV, family of 4 in a 1000 square floor condo. Our bill is $400/month! We do a lot of laundry, but how can you not with 2 kids under 5? Plus, last Dec we lost power for 12 hours when a substation caught on fire. Unbelievable!

Why I’ve been a monthly donor to @runforsomething.net for years: In addition to investing in deep red areas like this, they also do a lot of work locally here in CA supporting young candidates who take on NIMBY-captured politicians and interests. Just a great org.
America has a housing shortage. Every single housing proposal you see that is not "build more housing" will have the primary effect of pushing up the prices of existing housing, and is therefore, in reality, a plan to enrich current homeowners. In conclusion, build more housing.

I'm not the first person to note this, but authoritarian crackdowns are much more difficult in cities, where's there's public space & people can gather & find solidarity. That's partly why reactionary governments everywhere prefer suburbanization -- it disperses, dilutes, & atomizes the public.
