NOW ON YOUTUBE: 'A Pastoral Horror' (1890) - ACD's tale of a serial killer in a remote Austrian village. #arthurconandoyle www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOuj...
NEW EPISODE: 'A Pastoral Horror' (1890). A Tyrolean village is terrorised by a serial killer, armed with an alpine pickaxe... Chat about: early crime fiction; Jack the Ripper; Feldkirch; werewolves and cuckoo clocks! bit.ly/DODoyle; bit.ly/DOD72sn; #ArthurConanDoyle
NOW ON YOUTUBE: The Three Correspondents (1896). Conan Doyle's story of war reporters, based on his first hand experience of preparations for the Sudanese campaign. Chat about Fred Gustavus Burnaby, Lord Kitchener and Carry On Up The Khyber www.youtube.com/watch?v=_oVs...
A great little story - most definitely of its time - but one that has a lot of humour, pace and depth. We also covered 'The Debut of Bimbashi Joyce', a companion piece that features Kitchener, and a vignette I've always thought was very well done.
NEW EPISODE: The Three Correspondents (1896) - A naive war reporter gets one over on his experienced rivals. Chat about: the Mahdist war, Kitchener and Wingate, ACD's comedy and satire, and 'The Debut of Bimashi Joyce'. bit.ly/DOD071sn
If it helps, my camerawork is so appalling you can barely be seen... Congrats again!
We missed you, Maria!

The Winter 2025 Sherlock Holmes Journal is back from the press and winging its way to subscribers. Topics include early Croatian translations (check out that cover!), fingerprints, the real Moran, and more. Thanks to all our wonderful contributors and, of course, our readers.
Nice thought though.
Glad you enjoyed it @richardfallon.bsky.social. Weβve been looking - and asked around - and weβre pretty sure itβs a myth. No evidence it ever existed as far as we can see. Weβd love to be proven wrong of course!

Now that would be telling...
Spot on about the Case-Book - much maligned, but much of worth in there.
On Gruner/Dracula, it's interesting that Violet de Merville is described as an ethereal other-world beauty. A touch of Lucy Westenra perhaps?
