Reclusive Canadian children's author. Very slowly wrote a few picture books, including the frequently banned Morris Micklewhite and the Tangerine Dress [2014], Violet Shrink [2020] and a 3rd book due for release Spring 2026. Loves a good em dash. She/her.

"The firing of Dr. Hayden is a Kremlineque move to suppress ideas and to send a chill through the leadership of cultural and educational institutions," said PEN Americaโs Hadar Harris. "The message seems obvious: Comply or be fired."

Oh my gosh! Thank you for your kind words! ๐ฎ๐๐
Just in case anyone's wondering how bad she's lying: the only people who can check books out of the LOC are congressional staff.

Thanks so much, Charlotte. And thank you for Violet. Itโs an incredible book that went on my favourites list the second I hit the last page of it for the very first time. ๐
Special thanks to the TD Canada Grade One Book Giveaway Program. My students loved their new books. ๐ @carmenmok.bsky.social your illustrations are beautiful! @kidsbookcentre.bsky.social #readingmatters
It's beyond surreal, but here we are: the US Supreme Court is discussing the imaginary threat posed by queer families and kids being included in a handful of story books.
Thanks to Sarah Brennan for this brilliant editorial cartoon. Oral arguments will take place April 22.
Thank you so very much, Robin. That really means a great deal to me. I'm rooting for you! ๐

Thanks to the brilliant @sarahsbrannen.bsky.social for this political cartoon on Mahmoud v. Taylor and our picture books! I LOVE IT! Oral arguments are April 22. The greatest gift of having a book in this stressful case has been connecting with the SCOTUS Book Club!

Charlotte, you've been such a superhero. I'm so tired, and my spirit's been crushed, but it's been healing little by little watching you, @robinstevenson.bsky.social, and all the other brave creators banding together and supporting each other out there on the front lines. ๐
So exciting! Congratulations! ๐๐

I keep hoping we're going to get past this age of "I'm willing to vote against making my life better if it means making someone else's life worse", but it isn't looking good, people.

Book challenges are on the rise around the globe โ in Belarus, China, Hungary, Turkiye, and even in Canada.
Although for Canadians #bookbans are perhaps most noticeable south of our border, the trend is creeping into our own communities and schools.
Let's see how this goes, shall we? But first --
