Evidently it's harder to say those things together than you make it look!
When you use the "it wouldn't have happened if not for Israel's actions" construction, who can disagree? But when someone says "It happened because of Israel," that transfers agency away from the actual would-be murderer.

I don't see anything problematic in that thread. As you say, it's an argument.
But by the same token, when someone says that the latest synagogue attack happened because of Zionists' rhetorical choices (and I have seen others say this), I don't see that as an argument. That is excuse-making.

There's a reason "hurt people hurt people" is a phrase but "hurt people commit acts of terrorism against random Jewish toddlers" is not

Okay, I have to stop adding people to the list and start getting ready for Shabbat. I look forward to people complaining that I am a Zionist because I don't accept that trying to blow up a synagogue with preschoolers in it is a natural response to Israeli war crimes

Added a bunch of people in the replies from there to my list. It's incredible how shameless some people are. They really think trying to blow up a preschool is an "understandable" response for this guy

If you in any way equivocate or defend an attack on a synagogue daycare as somehow justified by Israeli violence, you're doing Hasbara and belong nowhere near a liberation movement.

This is great. I love to see questions kids ask, such as:
"Why do we light candles for the holiday?"
"Why do we eat a Hillel sandwich?"
"Why can't we have a Shammai taco?"

Bluesky post from
@xminust.bsky.social:
The guy who drove his car into a synagogue in Michigan lost four family members when Israel bombed Lebanon last week. Anyone saying "THAT'S NO EXCUSE!! HOW DARE YOU!" You're partly right. It's no excuse, but it's understandable.
"It's no excuse but it's understandable" nah fam, if it's understandable to you that American Jewish toddlers should pay with their lives for a bombing half a world away with no connection to them or their families other than them being Jewish, then you are making an excuse, actually.

Special dishonorable mention to anyone who talks about the synagogue attack and using the phrase "blurred lines." No, I'm sorry, there are no blurred lines about a terrorist attack on preschoolers.

Good news, Shammai is open to take your questions. The only thing is that I might smack you with my builder's cubit instead of answering you. But I'm open for questions if I don't do that.

Pausing and reflecting on why you were hurt isn't always sufficient, right? I mean some Jews did this and came to the conclusion of "It's because we were too defenseless" or "It's because we were too assimiliated"

And I'm seeing people talk about how that synagogue was pro-Israel. The fact is, it's possible that that was involved in the attacker's choice of target - we don't know yet. But if someone implies that that makes it the synagogue's fault, then you better believe they're going on the list

"This happened because of Netanyahu/Israel" also gets people on the list, even if they add something about how the attack was wrong. They're still going around providing an excuse for attacking a preschool

Shouldn't a false flag attack be required to have... a flag? Of some kind? Literally HOW can it be a false flag attack when the government line is "The shooter's name is not being released and police are still investigating their motives"

Lots more to add to this list today. Zero tolerance for this kind of behavior. Any references to the attack potentially being a "false flag" are an automatic inclusion
