I thought the purpose of government was to try to enhance the freedom and liberty of its most vulnerable and least privileged individuals, because as they become more free (to learn, worship, grow, teach) we all become more free.

When I was younger and more naïve, I identified as a Libertarian, especially as I transitioned out of the evangelical Christian faith of my childhood into adulthood. Also as a Quaker, I believed in the power of the state to actively provide access and protection of other people’s liberties
