At the #MiningIndaba2026 in South Africa this week planetGOLD #Zambia Project Manager Abigail Mwailenge, #Zimbabwe Project Manager Nyaradzo Mutonhori & Kirsten Dales, consultant to planetGOLD #Ghana, highlighted efforts to advance responsible, #mercuryfree artisanal & small-scale gold mining.
In Côte d'Ivoire the planetGOLD project has helped about 150 miners organize a cooperative to formalize their operations — a critical step toward enabling them to take up #mercuryfree methods that can improve their health while protecting local communities & the environment. youtu.be/tKNDYftZfGA?...

A small green plant grows out of cracked, dry desert sand under a hazy sky. Large white text reads: “75% of the Earth’s land surface has been significantly altered by human actions.” UNEP logo in the top right corner.
The land we live on does more than feed us—it helps in cooling our planet by absorbing harmful emissions.
Human activities are upsetting this balance, but together we can change the story.
