I went to meet the 'Rockstar 31', the developers who were suddenly fired from their work on GTA 6 for what the studio has described as gross misconduct.

That's not what the workers call it though. They have another couple of words they prefer to use: union busting.

We live in capitalism. Its power seems inescapable. So did the divine right of kings. Any human power can be resisted and changed by human beings. Resistance and change often begin in art, and very often in our art, the art of words.

That’s what makes Star Trek inspiring. That’s why it matters. And that’s exactly what Strange New Worlds seems to forget—or worse, what those who own it want us to forget. What happened to “risk is our business”? Isn’t that why we go out in a starship, why we’re aboard her in the first place? Instead, Strange New Worlds has become hollow postmodern product—nostalgia without context—designed to reinforce cultural norms. It sells a “centrist” vision that treats fascism as just another side in a debate, while framing marginalized voices who challenge the hierarchies fascists exploit as the real threat. At best, that message encourages passivity; at worst, it actively vilifies those already marginalized for daring to disrupt the status quo. I want a Star Trek that resists the expectations of today—not by flattening villains or throwing punches, but by daring to represent a dream of a better tomorrow that we should reach for. Something new. Something braver. A Star Trek that challenges power in the present tense, that resonates with us not just as nostalgia but as a rallying cry. That speaks directly and overtly to the world we live in, the forces shaping it, and the struggles we face right now. That’s what Star Trek once dared to be. That’s what it should still dare to be.
