Because the referendum only had two choices: DST or Switch. Nobody even put Standard on the ballot. I remember I wrote a letter of complaint but of course, it went nowhere. People see the shiny "permanent" and forget the rest.

Such bullshit. Now our province of BC will switch to permanent Daylight Saving Time - so idiotic. Why do we have to switch permanently to an artificial time? They had a referendum but the option for "regular time" wasn't even there. We had a choice between "DST" and "switch".
