The problem does not lie in the premise of the American Experiment in Democracy. It lies in Capitalism which, unregulated, drives us back toward feudalism. Properly regulated, it might yet evolve into a healthy Socialist Democracy and from there toward proper Communism. It's the economy. Always.

To my mind, risking the profit of military contracts by confronting their own source of profit--as obvious a choice as it seems to me--will always be heroic in a Capitalist system.

Personally, I try to avoid doing any business with military endeavors, but certainly tech-based corporations exist in hope of military contracts. To recognize--however late in the game--that military use of their tech is awful for humanity represents a difficult ethical issue for any corporation.2/?

As I understand it (and i don't claim any inside information) it was post Venezuela, in the lead up to this war that @anthropic.com (weigh in!) made a decision not to be a collaborating entity in A) Mass domestic surveillance and B) the use of their tech for autonomous weaponry. 1/?

Hegseth said we will have "no more stupid rules of engagement." This represents a clear statement of intent to ask the military to break laws.

He must be forced to resign or be removed or everyone with the power to effect this removal becomes complicit in all future war crimes.

It was that use (or the lead up to it) that led to Anthropic refusing to give up control of its code and the overlapping ban on its use by the Government on Trump's part.

As Anthropic heroically resist having its AI used in autonomous weapons systems, it occurs to me, that the people who have based their argument on "guns don't kill people..." are now saying, "But wouldn't it be cool if they COULD?"
