We saw β€œGood luck, Have Fun, Don’t Die” the other day, and I need to recommend it to everyone. Insanely fun (though dark), very appropriate for the times, and how can you not love Sam Rockwell?

The best I’ve seen this year so far.

Some random person at an event today β€œrecognized” me and said β€œyou used to tweet a lot, no?”

Yes. Yes, I did. 😭 #RIPTwitter

"when Trump announced the idea of tariffs to address the trade deficit... every economist around the country said: That's a very bad idea, that won't work....

If you look at 2025 as a whole, we have basically the same trade deficit...

So I'm going to score this one for the economist, mate."

I feel this is a common sentiment (from my experience with my highly-selected friend group), but how many now can’t stand Chalamet?

(For me it happened during the press tours for β€œA Complete Unknown”, but he has gotten worse, no? He’s going into Austin Butler territory for me.. with better acting).

There’s a paradox around remote work. Jamie Dimon says it will kill productivity, while startups are hiring for remote roles. Who is right?

With Abhinav Gupta and Elena Simintzi we try to resolve this dispute

I was going to make a joke about the Times New Roman/Calibri situation, but then I remembered that I, too, take fonts extremely seriously.

Offenders from different socio-demographic groups receive different sentences. This appears to violate the principle of equality under law.

However, this may be explained by differences in the nature and circumstances of the crimes performed. I.e the different sentences may be 'warranted'.

(cont.) an RCT useful. If you’re take was β€œwe shouldn’t run an RCT without _credible_ evidence from a DD, RD, or IV, etc.”, I’d maybe understand it (but still disagree). Using obs data for hypothesis generation I think it’s useful and might even be more efficient than the current status quo.

29.11.2025 21:48 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, clearly the disagreement is where the bar is. I’m just finding it difficult to reconcile your take on β€œevidence can come from a mouse study or personal experiences” vs β€œassociations are not enough”. Both are clearly NOT robust causal evidence, but they do provide info that may warrant (cont.)

29.11.2025 21:47 πŸ‘ 3 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, we do, but I guess I just disagree with the bar you’ve placed to run an RCT. I think there are settings where robust causal evidence is not possible, but you have an interesting model in mind that you want to test out. Also, if the hypothesis is interesting, null results are also v. important!
