I'm gutted not to be able to join Germany's first Collaborations Workshop in Göttingen in Sep. If any other community members plan to be there and want to work on @carpentries.carpentries.org -related project(s), let me know how we can support you! events.hifis.net/event/3249/o...

Had a great time at deRSE26 last week, catching up with old friends and making some new ones 🤩 Thanks to everyone who came to our sessions, and to the organisers for another excellent conference.

But the emphasis of the lesson is "workflow thinking": help learners build a mental model of their process, which steps would most benefit from parallelisation, how to manage that and avoid starting from scratch when something needs to change, etc. Specific workflow lang is (much) less important IMO

Countless hours lost to the "which workflow language" debate! 😂😭
@hpc-carpentry.bsky.social's philosophy is to empower Instructors to customise workshops to meet local community needs. This was the origin of the Maestro lesson, and easy to imagine somebody making a Nextflow equivalent too.

This is like when somebody introduced me to git-man-page-generator.lokaltog.net and told me that 1 in 10 pages it produces are real pages from the docs. That was over a decade ago and I still haven't figured out if they were joking.

The @carpentries.carpentries.org team will be working closely with @hpc-carpentry.bsky.social community leaders in the coming months, to integrate their programs and processes into ours. It is an exciting time!

The HPC Carpentry project has existed for a long time already. They began the formal process of incubation as a Carpentries Lesson Program in June 2024. During that time, the community has strengthened its governance, curriculum, and outreach efforts.

HPC Carpentry teaches foundation skills for high performance computing, through inclusive, accessible, interactive workshops aimed at novices. They are a fantastic fit with The Carpentries, and I am so excited to see this happening.

Another is the degree of concern with the longer term maintenance of software, which is probably correlated with the attitude split you first mentioned.

24.02.2026 10:04 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0

I agree that's part of it. I see a split between people who can and cannot/will not "let go" of any concerns/misgivings about how the technology was trained/its implications elsewhere as well. (Usual disclaimer that there are many other factors, it's complicated, etc)

Thanks, I am aware that the bot can be run in a container. But the wording on your posts up-thread ("on YOUR machine. Locally. With full system access." | "Schedule a meeting with Sarah next Tuesday") doesn't imply that you would recommend this kind of caution. Do you not think it's necessary?

Any thoughts on the security implications of allowing an autonomous agent to run on your local system with full access to your filesystem? I will not be doing this in a hurry!

A lot of posters have been uploaded to Zenodo (>32000 records according to zenodo.org/search?q=typ...). But I suspect you want a kind of gallery view so that you can quickly identify candidates to share with your students?

📢 The Library Carpentry Curriculum Advisory Committee is calling for instructors to run pilot workshops for 14 lessons currently in Alpha status. To move them toward Beta and then adoption as Library Carpentry lessons, they need the Carpentries community to test the lessons in real-world settings. 🙏
