Meme. Painting of Cardinal Wolsey by Sampson Strong from the late 15th C. The cardinal is dressed in his carinal-colored carinal clothes, and his pointy hat. He is looking to your left, and there's no indication that he even knows you're here. His neck and chin look fat; he is very jowly, like he's trying out for the part of the bulldog in the Christmas pageant. Wolsey is pointing with two fingers. He might be blessing someone, or he might be indicating that he wants two eels. It's impossible to tell from the way I've clipped the image. Not for nothing, but "Sampson Strong" is a wonderful name, and I like to think that it's a descriptive title. Adjectival Nominalism. He's not just strong, friends. He's Sampson Strong. It was Cardinal Wolsey! In 1525, his kitchen account books show an expenditure of 16d. for "eels to roast."
