I would also guess, though, that the kids in this situation would rather the public be aware of the harm being done to them (particularly if that awareness leads the public to try to stop the harm), even if it means risking having their letters and drawings taken away.
You can just stop reading newspapers that you think are dishonest. In fact it’s probably incumbent on you to do that given our information economy. Boost outlets that are telling the truth, it’s much more effective than second guessing editorial decisions you can never change
